Three referees?
There are those who'd tell you finding even one qualified ref can be difficult. In freestyle they need three? ....and then there's the cost.
Have watched comparatively few freestyle videos..In each of those few the referees were apparently not inclined to allow the competitors to do their wrestling down on the mat for hardly any time at all - stood them up more quickly than what's usual in folkstyle...Possibly it's more worthwhile for folkstyle wrestlers than for freestylers to work on developing pinning techniques.
Haven't watched enough freestyle to get to understand the scoring procedure - will have to look it up.
Definitely have to agree with the Doug Reese comments in that article...Chief purpose of high school and college sports is or ought to be providing the opportunity for students to train and compete against others in sports they enjoy. The notion of training future Olympians shouldn't get the highest priority.
