Greetings!
I'm searching for the ancestors of my g-g-grandfather Thomas Hartley. He was born in England July of 1836, went to the US in 1857 (Yates, Orleans County NY in 1870; Somerset, Niagara County NY by 1875 until 1920s).
He married Susannah Lawcock in 1868 in Somerset NY.
They had at least 8 children: William Alfred (1869); Emily (my g-grandma); George (he later had son Gilbert and lived in 1920 in Newfane, Niagara County, NY); Rose/Rosa; Charles; Frank; Frederick J.; Albert W. (1881).
I have general years of birth (derived from age at census years) for each child.
I have on hearsay that Thomas Hartley fought in the US Civil War, and that a couple of his sons went "out West" (which could mean anything from Ohio to California) to live out their lives. Thomas lived until at least 1926. His second wife Hannah died sometime after 1920, and he went to live with his son George.
From the IGI on familysearch.org, I have found about 6 possibilities for Thomas Hartley. I would love to narrow this down! I have many descendants for Thomas's daughter Emily (she and husband Alva Payne had 10 children, all of whom survived to adulthood). I also have pictures of Thomas Hartley and his son George and grandson Gilbert, as well as pictures of his daughter Emily Hartley and her children.
I live in the US - if you are a possible "match", please help me out by identifying not only a town but also a county, as this is a bit difficult for me to ascertain on my own.
