I have windows 98, meet or exceed all game requirements as to MHz Ram GBs DX looks all certified.
the game loaded and started. But just as I get my PET and go to type 'YES', the PC freezes completely.
Any one have an experience like that? any suggestions?
please! I've had the game for almost 2 years and finally now have a PC and I want to Play!

Did you have installed the DirectX again (which was on the CD)? If you've had a higher version of it and installed the lower 5.0 from the CDROM it might cause this problems.

Most of us played the game on a Win 98 pc without any problems.
Try again to update your DX to latest version, the game is worth playing it.
Please tell us, if you got your problem solved.

Thanks, Ed. I don't know if I had DX before, actually. but that doesn't sound like a difficult solution. I'll give it a go tonight.

Hi Ed,
Well, I've downloded the direct x update. I actually got to type YES before it froze. Just the way things go for me sometimes. the only thing in the Direct X info screen without a version # or "certified" is the Primary display driver. I guess that might be important? where do I get one of those?
anyway, I've been waiting to play this game for 2 years and now that I finally have a computer , it's the obstacle.
thanks again.

Sorry, there is another display driver that is operating just fine according to the system.
But it's still freezing up.

Oh dear, this is infuriating. Titanic is a good game.
Here's a little stuff to read... maybe it helps?:
http://members.tripod.com/sstWordSmith2/sst/sst-hint/sstDirectX.htm

Let's see.. the DX Problem is hopefully solved. What else can we do?

The Video Player.
You may want the Free downlod from here: http://www.soft-ware.net/multimedia/video/kompression/p00660.asp You can test if you really need the compression tool by clicking on this words " klicken sie hier. " on that page. If you can see the little clip is been played, then you do not need the download.

Read through the advice at the Tech Support pages: http://www.protext.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/sst-forum/techsupport.htm#FailsToRun
Perhaps you are lucky and get something which will help you

Sorry, I wish I could be more helpful in this...

Well, it seems that I bought version 42b and couldn't patch from 42, but finally got patch btoc to load.
That got me to Marsinta....and ofcourse the game froze again. maybe the computer is just too old. thanks again. I'll keep trying ofcourse.

Well, Ed,
I got the game to work. I was in "settings" and went into "advanced" out of curiosity. clicked on performance and decreased the basic accelerators. The game played and other video downloads also worked as well. However this setting isn't good for being on-line, so I have to move it back when I'm not playing. I guess I need a new video card, if I can figure out which thing it is in the computer.
anyway, of to be frustrated for fun.
thanks again
cheers
