Horror Films and Violence

by

Horror films act as a venting of anger, hatred, and frustration. To say that horror films cause violence is the same as saying pornography causes rape. An individual does not just sit down, watch it, and go commit the act. If someone goes into a film looking to get ideas then there is something mentally unstable with that individual to begin with, and his/her actions can not be blamed on the makers of a film. Take all the recent shootings. You can not blame movies or music on those, because it is no coincidence that every single individual who carried out the shooting was on one or more anti depressant drugs. The two individuals who carried out the school shooting in Littleton, Colorado had been in and out of anger management classes, and were on prescription drugs to calm their violent behavior. Violence is a result of ignorance, not cinema. There are various things that cause violent behavior that are overlooked simply to rid society of what it deems to be "blasphemous and intolerable". The number one cause in all of these recent acts can be traced back to clinical depression, which is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. It causes a certain individual to feel worthless, enraged, lost, alone, etc. Horror films are not the cause of violence, lack of education and respect for human equality is.
