ok, so
this year i'm being an exchange student in italy. i want to show them something we do for christmas in america. i dont really know squat about cooking. a couple years ago we made a large gingerbread house, but that came with a large amount of help from my mother. i was wondering if i could find some of these ingredients here, because they arent in the dictionary. of course i will ask around, but if anyone could tell me something we could use as a substitute that would be easier to find here, that would be good too.

PS, i know this sounds thick, but is ginger really necessary to make gingerbread? its just for the flavor, right?
