Response to clear windows

Hi..this works well if you're not in a high humidity zone:

2 cups granulated sugar
1/4 cup water
3 TBLSP lemon juice (keeps mixture clear)

candy thermometer
large flat platelined with smoothed aluminum foil (try to avoid wrinkles..they'll show in the finished product)

Place ingredients in a saucepan and cook to soft crack stage (300 degrees or 140 degrees C.) on candy thermometer. Pour onto lined plate and cool until you can score candy with a large knife. Make sure you score the candy in large enough pieces to cover your windows. Cool completely before carefully peeling candy away from foil. Break at score lines. Turn the gingerbreadhouse piece over to secure window from the back with icing. Makes realistic window panes!
NOTE: I only had one incidence where the humidity made the windows run..but it had rained for a week and I live in Louisiana! However, be aware that humidit will affect this technique.

P.S. If you are doing a gingerbread doll house with furniture..this also makes great wall mirrors with the alminum foil still attached. With roayal icing frames around them, the make great decorations for over a mantle, etc. It can also be used as effective ponds if tinted blue especially for that purpose.
