I've done gingerbread with my grandchildren and great nieces. This will be our third year. Their ages now are 5,4,8,7,8,10 and 15. Our boy is the 4 year old. The rest are girls. The first year I bought kits for everyone. They put the houses together but we had a hard time getting the pieces to stay together. I finally pulled out the glue gun for assistance. Last year, I decided it was too expensive to buy kits for everyone so I premade all the pieces. I spent two days cutting and cooking gingerbread. I made smaller ones for the smaller kids and larger ones for the bigger kids. I put the houses together in advance. When the kids came they did the rest. What they really loved was chosing their candy, eating some, and putting it on the house with the icing. It took at least a couple of hours. My daughter and I also did houses and it took us days. It was a delightful scene with all the houses on the table. We had made a little village. So, make it easy on yourself this year. You can always do it different next year. It will become a family tradition. |
