The recipe she describes is a pretty standard gingerbread recipe that has worked for many people. I don't think it really matters what recipe you use, unless humidity is an issue or unless you are trying to make a house that lasts for ages. (In that case, search for humidity proof recipes or recipes that competitors have used successfully in contests.)
The bottom line is, if you aren't measuring accurately, you will get unexpected results regardless of which recipe you use.
