Need help with gelatin windows

I had a few problems with my gelatin sheet windows. I bought the sheets from sugarcraft. They have the diamond shape lines. I had trouble getting them to stay on. They went on okay but didn't stay on very well. I did a couple of things to keep them on but neither made me happy. First I put alot more icing on top of the sheets. That didn't always work either. So, I started "framing" the inside of the windows with gingerbread strips. This worked but it looked ugly.

The other problem I had was the windows cracking after they were in place. One of the windows that cracked or tore was a church window that I had painted with wilton coloring. I did two windows. One is fine, the other tore. Another window that wasn't painted also tore or cracked. The gelatin seems very brittle. But, I love the look when it doesn't break because I can paint on it. I tried an experiment to see what would happen if I dampened a gelatin sheet. It warps badly so that doesn't seem to be the answer.

I'm looking for help with these problems. Thanks, Gretchen
