Response to gold and silver effects?

If there is a good cake decorating store in your area, go there and look for gold or silver luster dust. You can mix this with vodka and paint it onto gumpaste or royal icing.

The little gold and sliver balls are called dragees.

If you are entering a gingerbread house contest, you should check with the contest officials to verify whether or not dragees would be allowed. If the contest requires all elements of the house to be edible, dragees might disqualify your entry.

Although some people do eat them, the state of California has banned gold and silver dragees. You can't even buy them on the Internet to be shipped to CA. Other countries and states don't have the same restrictions. You should check with your nearest local cake decorating supplier to find out the regulations in your area.
