BBBs - Jean Pierre vs. Mason Pearson?

I'm seriously considering to get myself a high quality rubber cushion BBB. I thoroughly checked the Mason Pearson and Jean Pierre web sites but still find it hard to decide what to get.

By size and number of bristle rows, the largest JP BBB (the Prestige) compares to the MP Handy. There are two bigger MP sizes (Large and Small Extra).

The JP brushes have great prices, but as I live in Europe the postage ruins it all for me - I can get the MP prestige for a total of about 70 Euros (45 Euros plus 25(!) Euros postage), the MP Handy for 65.50 (61.50 plus 4 Euros postage). The bigger MPs are more expensive of course.

So, my questions to anyone who knows both MP and JP brushes are:

- If you could get both for a similar price, which one would you get and why?

- Any comparison of bristle stiffness (boar bristles only)?

- Do you think a MP Handy size (or JP Prestige) is big enough for daily sebum distribution and general "care" (not "style") brushing? Or should I get a bigger one?

MP brushes seem to have a better reputation, but I don't know if that's only because it's an older company. If I compare the web sites, JP sounds more convincing to me actually, they seem to focus on performance rather than tradition.
Does anyone know if MP exclusively use "first cut" bristles as well (judging by the price I would hope so, but I haven't seen it officially stated anywhere).

Sorry for the bunch of questions, but as this is a major investment I'd like to be on the safe side before I buy.

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,
Madeleine

But I don't have an MP to compare. I can tell you, however, that the JPs are made in France so perhaps you can order directly from their French office? Perhaps you could email them and look into that. I have the Prestige and it seems large enough for me. I, too, was more impressed with the info on the JP website. From the looks of them both the handle on the JP looks more comfortable than the handle on the MP. It is easy to hold, but I can't give you a comparison. And the price certainly was right!

Hope that helps you at least a little!

I already e-mailed JP to ask about their distributors, but although their brushes are made in France they don't sell them within Europe. So I'd have to order one from the US - and just now it crosses my mind that I'd probably have to pay another 16% tax as well to get it into the country.

Hmmm, decisions, decisions. If the JP was the one I'd have to pay less for I'd get one right away I guess.

What I did do now is send an e-mail to MP as well asking about the type of bristles they use ... if I spend so much money on a BBB it would have to have "first cut" bristles only. I hope they reply at all to an individual's enquieries although one can't order from their web site.

Thank you for your reply, it did help.

Cheers,
Madeleine

Is it just that...

the JP company really sticks it to Europeans to ship them there? Would it be cheaper for someone who loves you to have the brush shipped to their American household, re-box it and send it overseas to you?

Just a thought.
