I have been taking about 2g/day MSM for 11 days now to help decrease my shedding.
I counted all of my lost hairs about two weeks ago and came up with 233. Today I repeated the procedure in the very same way and found 84. Is that a huge success or what!
While that's still quite a bit, it's within the "normal" range now - and who knows, it might get even better after taking MSM over a longer time.
Yay, i'm so happy Thank you all for your support, I wouldn't even know about this stuff if it wasn't for you. MSM is hard to get in Germany - you can buy imported MSM online if you know what you're looking for, but even salespeople in local pharmacies or health food shops have never heard of it.
Cheers,
Madeleine

I find that MSM cures (or at least alleviates) a multitude of ills, but it has only worked for me if I take a sufficient amount (4,000 mg per day). Anything less than that and I don't see results of any kind.
I hope your shedding continues to be less and less and less!!!

It's a bit hard to tell how much I'm taking because I use loose crystals - I've found one source that says that one level teaspoon equals about 5g, so I try to take about 1/5th teaspoon twice a day.
I know that too much of it will be flushed out of the body with no ill effects, but I don't want to waste anything either. Your message makes me want to experiment with dosage some more ... thanks!
Cheers,
Madeleine

...the recommended dosage is 1-4 of the 1,000 mg capsules per day. I take four. I've read on the Web that taking anything under 1,500 mg is pointless (as it won't do anything). 4,000 mg is generally the max, unless guided by a health practitioner to take more for specific conditions. I've also read that it's a good idea to work up to the largest amount gradually (I don't know why, though), but that there aren't any known side effects, so there's no "problem" with taking large amounts.
I actually started taking it for some joint pain. When I took it previously (to help with shedding) I was taking 2,000 mg. It didn't do a thing. However, I've noticed a dramatic difference since working my way up to 4,000 -- especially with my joint pain (it's all gone!) and also with decreased shedding.

I think the reason for working up gradually is ...

... that MSM speeds up cell metabolism and thus helps detoxification. I guess if you take too much at once this could be very uncomfortable.
I know that my first night on MSM wasn't kinda nasty, I was sweating, got a dry, sore throat and my nose swell shut - typical detox reactions for me. I was actually surprised that my skin didn't break out too.
I was fine again after 24 hours, but I did start on 1g/day and then worked up to two.
Cheers,
Madeleine

...Nature's Way (pure OptiMSM) in veggie caps -- no gelatin whatsoever! It's widely available on the Web and the price is outstanding (much, much better than anything I found locally).
