This is one of those movies (typical with war movies) that really needs about 5 or 6 hours to tell the whole story. The book did get into much more character development than the movie as well as the events leading up to the conflict. This should really have been done as a mini-series type event. Maybe like Band of Brothers or something.
I bought the tape of "The Real Story..." and while it is a great historical documentary, to me it was just that, a documentary. Black Hawk Down the movie is successful in bringing to the screen, what it may actually be like to be in a battle. I like to compare Black Hawk Down to the opening Normany landing scene in Saving Private Ryan except that BHD carries that intensity throughout the whole movie.
To me the documentary was compelling as an informational piece and BHD was compelling as an experience piece. Two totally different things.
