Well Monday morning 8:30 Am. My Dad and I start to pull his motor.

And at 9:35 it's on the cherry picker.

This all came about after the Club I pull in outlawed Roller Cams in the Stock classes, so here's what I'm putting in instead.

Here's the brackets to hole the lifters from spinning.

I thought I could get away with just pulling the intake but the heads where in the way so we striped them off too.
Here's the jig for drilling the holes for the studs to hold the cross plates.

That jig makes this a snap eight holes in ten minutes.

Then jig # 2 to help tap them straight.

Lifters installed and brackets bolted in.

Heads back on then pushrods installed.

Oh heck the push rods are to long now, they where 8.600 and I need 8.300 now .. But lucky I found some in Summit that are 8.350 that should work OK.

So now I'm waiting for the UPS Man, he should be here by Friday and we can button this up and get it back in the truck.

OK UPS man was here at 4:00 P.M. today. got it buttoned up and the final pictures are here. Stamped steel rockers .. Looks Pure Stock to me..

Love the pictures. Can,t never get enough of them. I think you aught to give your Daddy your new valve covers. It looks like the lifters would wear quicker than a normal lifter because they won't be able to spin and beings they're radiused there would be more friction. Let us know how they work. They sure look cool.

Yes they are expensive .. but I was just trying to keep the roller cam profile I had in the truck now .. It turns on just to good to risk going to something else..

are you using the same roller cam that was in it before?
or is it a different custom grind for those lifters?

When Joe Schubeck first came out with these radius lifters there was some issues with the hardness of the Cam blanks out at that time. And they use to Grind you a new cam blank too your own spec's and had them hardened it to 50 bernel.. but today's roller blanks are that hard or harder so he said I could just reuse the one I had.

how long do those rockers seam to last for you? and did you just drill out the pedestals to 7/16 to make them adjustable?

Last don't

December 19 2006, 9:03 PM

last as long as a good roller rocker set-up would last .
I did drill the fulcrums out to 3/8" and then ground the pedestal off the bottom.
We seem to go thru about 4 fulcrums a season. I'm trying to find a set of the old round fulcrum rockers that came on the 1969/70 flat tappet heads.
But after one season of pulling with the Schubeck's radius lifters Cam and lifter still look good.

are you looking for the self aligning ones? if so i know where theres a few sets. but since your already running guide plates a set of stock 454 rockers work fine just elongate the slot so theres clearance. thats what i ran last season with no problems.

Ill do some diging in the basement tonight i think i remember where i put the set of those rockers.

Do you have any pictures of the fulcrums that broke? if not which way did they split? in the direction of the axis of the fulcrum i would assume but not sure. I have mine drilled to 7/16 and ran them last season with no problems but i didnt have near the cam or springs then. Im going to either make a set out of bar stock or make an insert that goes on the top to distribute the load of the posi lock. but i havent decided which yet.
