was welding all the valleys that didnt contact each other on all the gears. It takes a little more care to get it wher it will go back togther, but on some of the large rears, its hard to get in ther to weld after you asseble.
The biggest thing I feel works for me is after I'm done, I pour lead into the carrier. I have seen modifieds with no weld just lead, that held great. One in particular had worked the lead over time till it was where it had a little play, but there was no way it could ever spin with all the lead in there.
Just clean it up good, heat the parts up with the torch, they dont have to be red hot, but if they are cool the lead doesnt flow as well, then just put the lead in any and all holes you have. The last lead i used was in blocks, and all we did was hold the block over the hole and let it drip off into the carrier. Found it easier then melting in a container then tring to pour it in. But useing wheel weights you might have to, unless you could hold the clip with some long pliers and melt the lead off. |
