While laying out my weight bracket and measuring 60" from the centerline of the front axle, it looks like it is sticking out there a mile. Looks kind of funny. Is it something you get use to? Any way what have you guys done to secure the weights to the bracket? Shazam, It looks like you have some bolts going through your weights? Is that all that holds them to the bracket? Need better pics.

re Weights

Digger,

It depends on what your using for weights. I am using the old style International 100 lb. tractor weights, so what I did to secure my weights is weld a piece of angle iron on both ends approx. 12 inches in from the ends of the flat stock, then drilled a hole in each at the top for a piece of 1/2 in. rod. This way, I can add or remove weights easily. I use just pull a pin from the 1/2" rod, slide the rod out, and add or remove as desired. I also picked up a piece of all thread, and made a couple of 2x3x1/4 steel plates to run through the weights to keep the stack together so they don't bang around. I'll be out until sunday, but I'll try to get you a picture when I get back.

Yes on my old weight bar I just ran bolts thru the weights and had a little wing nut that snugged everything up.

But my new Weight box keeps everything nice and neat with the cover .

And remember it's 60" from center of axle to the outer most edge of the weight bar.
And some clubs like ATPA and NTPA use a plumbob to find the outer edge for Truck that have lots of rake built in them.

Are the bolts the only thing that hold the weights to the bar? And how big were the bolts.

NO not the only way ... I have them hooked over the piece of Angle Iron.. it's just when I first built this weight bar I thought they would stay put all by them's selves .. Wrong .. one wrong bounch and they'll fly right off there ..
the bolts where an afterthought to make dame sure they never came off again going down the track ...
