Looking for some ideas on a setup for the front of my altered stock pulling truck. The truck is a 79 1-ton with a 460, auto trans, 4.88 gears, and 37" BFG All-Terrians. I am lookiing for any suggestions and pictures from some of the other truck pullers on the board. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks,
Doug

Hey Doug...

Where are you from and what organization do you pull? Don't forget to put yourself on the map. You might go back through the pages there are quite a few pics and alot of good info. Are you wanting to know about suspension or installing a weight bar? As far as I know you want to make the front end so you are almost up against the bump stops and we have had a lot of discussion about raking the rear of the truck, and removing the rear suspension blocks that are on the Fords. There are other guys that are way more knowledgeable than me and will chime in.

I pull in Indiana,Ohio, and Michigan. I already have a weight bar out front and front suspension sits on the stops. I am trying to get the front to hook a little harder. Looking to get some ideas on ladder bar setups for the front. The rear is solid so not much going on there.

Actually

The killer set-up would be the F150 coil spring front end with a Dana 60 Axle in place of the Dana 44.
It has the trailing arms to keep the axle wrap to a minimum and the coils float better then leafs.

I wish I had some pics of the truck. If anybody here pulls in Ohio or Indiana you may have seen it. It is just a plain white 79 F350.

I have a camera, but the truck is in Dad's shop right now and it might be a few days before I get there and snap some photos.

OUr you talking the front axle out of a newer style Dodge truck? And if so what kind of horsepower are they putting to them?

Yes I am

March 7 2007, 4:08 PM

talkin 94 or newer Dodge 2500 and 3500 series front axles - they r dana 60s n can take almost anything u can throw at em same as any other 60 front axle.
The good part is there isnt a btter traction/suspension than a 4 link - period, and it is coil suspension - even better - cuz then one can put a stockcar height adjuster in there to make ride hieght changes.

Ok, now I'm curious

Ken, you have definitely raised my curiosity. What kind've fabrication is necessary to account for the differences in frame width?

simple

you just pie cut the two frames either side of where the two frames are to meet, pull the ends into alignment weld together n then plate the inside n out with 1/8" flatstock.

The guys doin this say it is more work to mount the bumper to the Dodge frame stubs than it was to match the frames.
