Geolander

March 6 2007, 7:12 AM

I'm running the Geolander in a 35x12.50. They seem to do really well. Alot guys here that run auto. trannys run the M/T Claws. Since I haven't tried them I can't say one is better then the other.
We USED to all run the Terra-Tires. But after radials started coming out in 33s it seemed that a good Mud Radial worked alot better. I was one of the first to run the 33x12.50 radials against the Terra tires and I won more them I lost.

Tires

I dont know what kind of tracks you guys run on, but around here an all terrain tire works much better than the aggressive tires you are looking at, these tires dig holes that you must get out of, instead of going forward.

All kinds

Alan, I don't if you were talking to me or just everyone.
The tracks here very alot. Of course it depends alot on the moisture. We have tracks that have a high red clay content and they can be as hard as asphalt. I have actually heard the tires sqealing and you don't dig down hardly any.
Some of the tracks are clay but they have a little sand in them and then they come apart if you run a real aggressive tire.
And some other tracks are just dirt and even have a little gravel in them. It is really a crap shot. You show up and see what the track is going to be that day and try to adjust air pressure. All we can do unless we could by 3 sets of tires.
I have a friend who just purchased a new set of BFG ATs and there is one track I want to try them on. It is the track that has the sand in the clay and I think they should really do good there.
Just another experience to share. One time I watched two brothers pull a truck that at the time was a modified truck. Now keep in mind this was 15 years ago they probably weren't make the power we do now in the street class. But this particular truck hit a hard lick. Probably turned 7500 rpms or better. Anyhow they got to hook the truck twice with different drivers and I am not sure if the first brother ran the truck on boggers or terra tires. But it was one or the other. The second brother ran the truck a few spots back after they changed tires and he ran. ( This is the truth) a set of dirt track racing tires that had no lateral groves for tread. Just 2 or 3 grooves all the way around the tire. I can still hear that motor man it was screamin' and up on the rev limiter in the lose spots on the track. He finished 5th in the class and was only a couple of feet behind his brother with the (killer)tires. Moral to the story. Run watcha brung and hope you brung enough.

re Tracks

March 6 2007, 4:23 PM

Sounds to me like your best bet would be to run a set of At's since that would work for you on most tracks. Around here, the BFG AT's are a good all around tire meaning that there are tracks where another tread would work better, but since most of us can't afford to drop cash into 2 or 3 sets of tires, they are the best all around choice.

run the set of new BFG AT my buddy has. If I can talk him into letting me try them. They are 35x12.50 BUTTT it looks like they are on 12" wheels and I have seen that totally up set a truck.
