I'm going down there tonight. Dennis finished putting it together Saturday morning, and has it on the dyno now and is supposed to do the initial breakin and tune before I get there today, so that all we have to do when I'm there is finalize the tune, and load it up. I'm taking the camera with me, so I'll try to get some pictures and maybe a short video. I REALLY hope I can post final dyno numbers tomorrow and nestle it back snuggly into the truck tomorrow evening. It's only been 10 months since I pulled it out, so now I just have to remember where everything goes, LOL.

I didn't mean to rush. Just hoping things were going well.
I have had my motor since last weekend but have had the interest to put it back in the truck. We missed the close pulls for the time being so I am in no hurry to get started now. Our next close pull is the first part of July.
With fuel and everything being so high I thought about selling everything. But I don't I could get much out of it.
Well good luck this evening !!!!

Thanks. Things have been rough up to this point, but I have confidence in Dennis. With what I've learned from him, and what I'd learned watching the other guy, it's a wonder the motor stayed together the first 2 times we dynoed.
I hear ya on the fuel issue. I'm kind've in a tight spot, as most of the close pulls are "stock" class and they won't let me hook in those classes anymore (don't know why LOL). There are 3 pulls I could go to this weekend, but there just isn't any way I'll be ready by then. Once I get the motor, tranny and transfer case in, I'll have to measure for drive shafts, then wait for them to be made. Then, when the shafts are installed, I have to fabricate new mounts for the safety loops. I'm guessing I'll be down for another couple of weeks.
If all goes to plan (which it hasn't so far) I'll put the motor, trans, and xfer case in tomorrow evening then measure for the drive shafts, and while waiting on them I'll get everything hooked up to the motor and transmission.
Well, Dennis had it done when I got there, and took it to 7000rpm, and the Horsepower was 710.8 at 7K and was still climbing. Torque peaked out at 582ft lb at 6100. Needless to say, I am very pleased with those numbers!
The motor is home and I'm planning to drop it in tomorrow evening!

Well it sounds like all went very well and that you found someone whom you can trust as your engine guy. Glad to see things are headed in the right direction for you now.

LOL Travis, Yea, I was pretty excited when I saw those numbers, considering that all Dennis did was fix issues and in the process found another 45HP. This has been a very expensive lesson, but I've learned so much. The first is if it doesn't seem right with my limited knowledge, then it probably isn't and needs to be questioned, and investigated. One tip I picked up is to use bronze valve guides if your using a big roller cam. When he disassembled the heads he noticed material transfer to the valves which he indicated is not uncommon with cast iron guides and big cams.
Here is the complete list of issues Dennis and/or I found;
Main bore not line honed and bearing clearances not correct.
2 cam journals oversized.
3 oil galley plugs missing
All 16 lifters had a small flat ground on them at the bottom
incorrect keepers on intake valves
2 retainers were for a triple spring the rest were for double spring (what I'm running)
springs too light for cam/rpm causing valve float
Less than half the recommended bore to piston clearance
Timing chain cover not installed correctly causing front seal to leak.
Oil pickup to pan gap not correct (and the former builder told me he checked it)
Either the last guy flat didn't know what he was doing, or he wanted the motor to fail. After finding all this, I'm glad I had the initial oil pressure problem, cuz if I hadn't I would have ran it hard, and it wouldn't have lasted!
Gee, think you'd go back to the first guy?
