Pull this weekend

Well guys, I went and put my foot in my mouth (again). My 16yr old daughter has been wanting to drive the truck since I built it, but I couldn't let her because she didn't have a license (most brush pulls around here require a license). Well, now she has her license so I don't have a new excuse that will stand up to scrutiny. LOL Anyway, I've been trying all summer to find a brush pull that she can run in that's not on day she has to work. This Saturday she has to work 10-2 but is going to see if she can work 9-1 so she can go to the pull.

So, I'm going to be as nervous as I was when they were born! LOL Maybe I need to have a few 12 packs of a choice beverage before the hook......

Well

Don't get me wrong. I haven't been there yet but the day is coming. So what I am about to say is not from my first hand experience. Just how I feel on this subject.
Has she ever gotten to drive the truck ???? If not she needs some seat time even if it is only in the driveway.
Setup a post or anything for a reference point. Let her practice backing up to it as though she is backing in to the sled to hook up. She will then get used to putting the gear selector in the right position and everything. I know you don't have much time to prepare but any amount of seat time will help you and her feel more comfortable.
A guy I work with built a truck just for his son to run. But he never let the kid drive the truck until it was time to hook, the kid always had a hard time getting the truck to start the sled unless it was wide open and side step the clutch. I told him (the dad) that his son never got to drive the truck enough to get used to the clutch and he needed to start letting him load and unload the truck on the trailer and any other time the truck needed moved. Findly the kid was driving the truck on and off the trailer etc. and his last to runs he got the truck out of the hole with the sled like a pro.
The main think to remember is go dig dirt have a great time and don't let your daughter know you are nervous or upset if all doesn't go as you hoped.
PS. I would just love to see video footage so I can cheer her on down the track. Good Luck....

My truck has an automatic, so it won't be so bad. I will have her in the truck going over the controls before this weekend, but I still plan to hook the truck to the sled and have it ready, so she just has to jump in and go (after some last minute instruction). Figured I'd give her a taste before it's over for the year. Main reason I'll hook it and take it back to the trailer is because the auto tends to push the truck since I only have brakes on the front.

And don't worry, if it works out that she gets to drive, I will have someone filming the occasion! Especially plan to get a little footage of her in my driving suit. (that ought to be hilarious)
