Does anyone know if the tie rod ends are the same for a Ford or Chevy Dana 60. The tapered stud diameter is what I'm interested in. Reason for asking is I am looking at getting D.O.M. tubing to make a new tie rod, and the places that have it offer tie rod ends for a Chevy.
Back when I was running my truck with a D60 up front, what I did was welded a Stiffner brace along the whole front of the rod. It's still working today and hasn't shown any sign of weakness.

Thought about that, but my tie rod is pre bent to clear the pig, so it would be kind've hard to re-inforce that area.
You can get some tubing that will just slip over your current tie rod tube. Just cut off the ends where it is threaded and weld them into your new tubing and use your current tierod ends. This is NOT recomended for street use tho! Sorry I don't know how good of a welder you are and don't want run INTO you on the street and find out!

Been up in Canada this week on business, so no work on the truck, but the D.O.M. tubing arrived while I was gone, so I've got everything I need to get going on the interior and hydraulic steering now. Gonna spend time with the family this weekend, so I'll get going on it next week.

What size tubing and heims did you go with? I went with 1-1/2 O.D. with a I.D. to direct tap for 1 inch and got 1 inch heims, dam them things are big.

1-1/2" tubing and 7/8' Heims. Got home last night and saw the box, but was too tired to take the time to check it out. Long hours working then driving home had me wore out.

Got the tie rod and heims and have one question. Do I just drill out the tapered hole and use a regular bolt?
