the class i run really has no rules...street stock...most guys i run with are pretty much stock with the exception of a few mods...cam...blocked rearends...small inexpensive stuff....but my question is which would be better...a 4wd drive with a 26 inch or so hitch height or raise the hitch all the way up with is about 33 inchs and just let it go...i cant hang any weights on the front it has to appear factory...my hitch looks pretty much like the one on the shazam truck
if there is no hitch height rule, generally the higher you get it the better because you can get the front of the sled more on the rear of the truck. which you can get up to speed faster and have a longer pull i think

I could be all wet here, but, in my limited experience, too much hitch height is as bad as not enough. A higher hitch will raise the front off the ground if the rear is blocked, and could also put more stress on the rear end. Also, it's gonna take more hp to keep the revs up! We are talking about street stock right?
I've been told that lowering the hitch will let you get on top of the cam quicker which will get you up and moving, but will hurt on the big end of the track cuz you won't have as much weight on the rear axle. On the other hand, a tall hitch loads the rear end quicker making it harder to get/stay on top of the cam so you need a healthy motor.
I wasnt exactly sayin jack it clear to the moon. sleds around are easy to get rolling and dont put any weight on you till the last 30ft so i try to get the most speed i can. but we have a hitch rule so i cant experimint much

With no weight on the front of the truck and a high hitch it will be hard to keep it from bouncing. But you can experiment.
the org. is trying to kill this class anyways...there is about 4 of us that go to all the pulls and then the guys that drive there trucks in.....yes it is street stock....mine is a 460 with a mild mid range cam weind stealth intake and a holley 750 carb....ive tried all i know to do but i keep coming up about 20 feet short of the top two in the class any body got any suggestions for that with out droppin alot of money into it
I under stand your pain. You just have to keep trying different thing at different tracks. Theres some places I (or my wife)pull at that I can compete maybe top three trucks. Then theres tracks I bounce and end up almost last. Its not always HORSEPOWER that wins.I run the smallest mill in my class.Just keep playing around with the hitch because what works at one track doesn't work at all. Thats my way of going about it.
