| So the rumor is out that you are building a new mill. Just curious as to your engine builder. Now I'm not trying to get any names because that could lead to more leaks. But did you decide to stay with the same guy that did your current engine or did you try a different shop this time.
PS. I have a friend that does a great job on B&S 5hps for cart racing in a stock class. I think he can get around 9hp now. I'll shoot you his number maybe he can get you 4.5hp from the engine in last motor picture you posted for us. LMAO. |

First off, I think your guy needs to brush up on his B&S skills. We took that little briggs and got a huge increase enough so that the #'s are classified! Lets just say that a bunch of hours has been logged on the flow bench and some new theories investigated.....
I know some of you are curious, but the truck is what it is. Travis and I are looking at pooling our resources to build an exhibition tractor like what is run in Michigan and other places. They take an antique and replace the mill with a small block and still keep the original sheet metal. So it still has a strong resemblance to the original tractor. We are thinking that there is potential here in Indiana cuz one of these can be built for less than 6g's. We're still not committed to it but we are looking for parts......
I really wanted to redo the motor with the "new" heads I got, and I will at some point when the $$ are there.

I was hoping to do something with the CJ heads I bought for this year but it isn't going to happen. I'm trying to build a new cabin and there just isn't enough money to go around at my place.
I did send my Race Demon to Biggs Performance and Jesse gave it the once over. I need to put an electric fan on the truck too. Last week I put my new fuel tank on and have got to buy some line and fittings to make a return line from the regulator to the tank and that will probably be it for this year. I'm still kicking the idea around of spraying some paint. We'll have to see. If fuel prices go where they say. I'll not be hauling the truck around very much anyway. |

I'm in the same boat. I paid $3.69/gal 2 days ago for diesel and if this trend continues, I'm gonna find a cheap beater/daily driver and park the diesel truck. I'm still considering selling the Dodge and buying a Ranger to drive and finding a moving van to haul the truck. But the simple fact is that we run for $300/1st place, and with many of the pulls 3hours or more away, I'll have $200 or more just to get there and back pulling the trailer and running the truck down the track. I know we aren't going to get rich pulling, but dang it would be nice not to spend all the winnings in just getting there and back..... Also, it would be nice to have more pulls within an hour drive. I was hoping to make a points run this year, but fuel prices will play a factor in that decision.
That's where a street "stocker" looks appealing again. More local pulls.

It looks like we have lost 2 pulls here that were close. Seems the guy that owned the land where the track was didn't want to let them have pulls anymore. They were less then an hour away.
The promoters here won't pay that kinda money. If it's a points pull they may pay $150 or $200. If it's not a points pull 50 bucks is it and thats after you pay to get in the gate and pay the hook fee. Which is any where from $10 to $30.
Diesel here is running about $3.29 to $3.39. One of my friends who owns his own business is talking about selling all his Strokers and going back to gas trucks. He said he lost about 2 or 2.5 mpg when they which to the ultra low sulfur fuel back in the fall.
I did talk to the guy about painting the truck again last night. I thought if I was ever going to need any sponsers this might be the year and some fresh paint won't hurt. |

I went to sanctioned pulling because my truck was at the edge of "street stock". There were 2 other trucks in my area that could run with me but everyone else was at least 20-30 ft behind us. I got tired of having to find numbers to call to see if my truck would make their rules etc. plus the best purse I got was around $50 for 1st. Problem with going sanctioned was the truck was built to their altered class which they did away with to add a diesel class, so I've been playing catchup ever since which sux cuz I usually finish 4th to 7th place.
The way ITPA does it, is ITPA charges a fee per class and the promoters determine how many classes they want. That class fee is all they pay. The association then charges us a $35 hook fee and they take care of the payouts. Our payout is determined at the begining of the season after we have all the contracts in and our sponsor contracts lined up. Usually our sponsor money is set aside to pay the points fund at the end of the season. The more money we take in, the more we pay back...

1 Draggin (no login) 12.168.119.230 | 2 Sanctioning bodies | February 27 2008, 9:09 AM |
We really only have the 2 bodies here and the one I really wouldn't count. It is the one I was venting about awhile back and the other one has alot of good pulls BUUTT they are mostly in the northern part of the state and over into WVA. and Maryland which are all a stretch in distance for me. Both of those Bodies has the better payouts. But I'd be looking at close to 300+ plus miles every pull. Some would be 500 miles around trip.
I guess I'll have to stick to the outlaw pulls close by with the $50 purses. And by outlaw that means anything goes. |

outlaw means anything goes, then all you gotta do is build a bigger, badder mouse trap. lol |

I'm running against Alum. Headed 557s now. BUT they don't have their trucks setup to use the HP their making.
I talked with one of the local Promoters this weekend to see if they would be interested in having more pulls at that location. To make up for some of the ones we lost this year. He said he would ask the board. So maybe we can get a couple more that are close to home. |

keep trying. I'm going to talk to the guy in charge of the pull at our fair to see if I can get them interested in bringing in ITPA. I sure would like to pull in front of the home town crowd.

We always have a pull at the end of the summer at a Fair that is the next county over. The whole fair is a big deal for several area counties surrounding them. It probably is the biggest crowd I pull at and everyone there knows everyone. Believe it or not my truck seems to be the most consitent there. We always finish really well and there are usually close to 50 trucks there for my class. Maybe even 50 plus.
It's the biggest rush of the year for my truck pullin' |
