I know there has been a lot of discussion on these lately, but I was wondering, besides going to the ProFab kit, what, if any, are the best modifications to do to a stock NP 205 to help it hold up?? I thought a different bearing plate or something was mentioned?? I haven't had any problems to date, but if there is something simple to do, I would like to get it done.
you can weld the slots in the output shaft up thats the weak point there. the rear bearing retainer can be replaced with a billet one and some people weld the shifter into the low position to keep it from jumping out of gear.

Does anyone having any pictures of the slots that need to be welded up on the output shaft?? Also, can you buy a billet retainer or is it something that has to be custom made??

we run a 1" thick aluminum bearing/seal retainer on the out puts of transfercase.never spit out another rear output since, but have broken the shaft clean off.but that was from running 36x 14.50 truxus hooked hard.if interested in the retainer with seal cost me around $80.oo to make.we use them in the pro fab 205 cases also .
Any of the replacement output shafts I've seen had drilled oiling holes instead of the oiling slots. Put the good shaft in and the alum stiffener plate on the output bearing and it should last, if you don't bounce it too hard! Keep the slotted one for a spare!

Where is the best place to get the replacement shaft with the drilled oiling holes instead of the slots?? Are all of the retainer covers homemade or can you buy them somewhere??
alan
the one i made was solid and counter sunk for socket head allen screws that looks like a good price on them
question woulndt welding the slots in the shaft make them more brittle?

Would these parts be enough to help it out, or would you need the entire kit??
NP205 Billet Bearing Retainers - From $129.00 USD
NWF Billet Bearing Retainers
Cracked, oxidized and crumbling stock cast bearing retainers are a common problem for the 203 and 205 transfer cases - now we have the perfect solution! Our Billet bearing retainers are CNC machined from 6061-T6 Aluminum to a beautiful, yet very functional finish. These retainers use stock seals, and also feature oiling ports.
Pair Of Bearing Retainer: $129.00 USD
Pair Of Bearing Retainers /w Seals and Gaskets: $149.00 USD
Now you can purchase the same great billet PTO cover included in our 203/205 kits separately. We highly recommend the use of this type of PTO cover on a NP205 that has been clocked up. Clocking of the NP205 moves the critical location of the fill plug, changing the volume of fluid the transfer case will accept. This cover is CNC machined from billet 6061-T6, Hard anodized, and etched for lasting good looks. Brass 3/8" NPT plug included.
Here are some of the parts i make for the 205, these are 1480 output yokes, and the billet bearing retainers the two shown are input and front output i am currently out of the 5 hole output. Here is some pics of my transfer with a profab kit, my yokes and bearing retainers. Walt [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG]

How much horsepower do you think you are making? This is an important factor pertaining to your requirements.

Bret, you are right it depends on hp. I will tell you from my past 8 years of experience, 650hp. and under you should have no problems with the stock 205, 650 - 750 you need to start beefing up the output shaft, bearing retainers and u-joints, any thing over 750 well you get my point. My 2 cents, hope this helps. Walt
