The other thread was gettin' kinda long so I started a new one.
Here's a couple of pics of the rear driveline protection. This last pic is of the rear t-case output u-joint shield/driveshaft loop. This has been on the POS for a few years. The rest is new.

Well...... "If" I ever get the bodywork & paint done I'll have to think of a new name for sure. LOL

So are you going to let the new metal "age" to match the rest of the metal? LOL sorry, couldn't resist. Actually it's coming along nicely. From the looks of the rear end, your going to have a bunch of rake or are you planning to lift the front?
When I was first started building my truck, I stripped it down and took the frame in and got it sand blasted and painted with some kind've under carriage paint. Susposed to offer some rust inhibitor and be more durable than regular paint.
I'm hoping to make it to at least a couple of pulls this year. It's just too darned cold out to work on it during the winter. Even if I could get it in the garage, there is no heat out there and with the price of fuel it doesn't look like there ever will be. LOL.
I made a lot of progress on it yesterday. Removed un-needed wires, mounted the radiator, got the tilt basically done. My son (Nick Jr.) is working on the bodywork. Hopefully I'll get out to E-Z Pull (junkyard) and find the "Guts" for the rear on Tuesday. I really have to be careful with the dollars right now because there is talk of an "early retirement incentive" (buyout) for us Geezers that are over 50 and have at least 25 years in (State of New Jersey govt. job or as us workers call it... Glorified Welfare). If this buyout gets voted in, I'll probably have to retire by July 1st.

I don't think that would work Travis. HE is fixed. Ha, Ha.
It's a GM 14 bolt. I need the "guts" with 4.56 gears. I'll let ya know later in the week.
This would have been in the above post but I forgot to log in and couldn't go back and edit it.
Guess I'll have to change my name to "Big Dummy".

Alan,
They are not my wifes they are my "daughters" cats. It is all part of the woman conspiracy theory we have discussed before. You know they if they want something they get it for the "daughter" just so we wont kill it or burn it or whatever it takes to rid our lives of the things we have to put up with in the name of, well you know. I tell ya I had a plan of getting them in the driveway and having a sort of a "well i didnt see it" but the damn things are to fast and they have gotten smart enough not to come into the driveway anymore. And I would have a awfully tough time explaining why I was driving through the yard.
Sorry A..., I don't have any D60 parts at all and I need the diff (preferably open),the gears, the yoke, etc.. Basically all the "Guts".

HEADS
May 27 2008, 4:48 AM
So POS. is that not a set of Alum. Heads I saw on that motor ???? And you have been talking down FEs! Looks like somebody is looking to hurt some feels this year !
Keep up the good work.
I never talk down FEs. I think they are the best thing since sliced bread. LOL. No, seriously though,I've always owned FEs from my 1st car (59 Ford w/390)right on up to POS. A bit harder & more expensive (though the aftermarket prices are coming down and the availability of parts is increasing) Anyhooo.... Yep, they're Edelbrock RPMs. Did a little work to them but that's Top Secret Stuff if ya know what I mean.

Doesnt the FE kinda handicap you with not being as easy to make cubes?? I was thinking that you eastern guys run alot more cubes than we do in the midwest.
It's not really that hard to build an FE up to around 500 ci. It just takes cubic dollars. LOL.
There are a lot of parts available today that weren't out there a couple of years ago.
Mine is currently a 396 (.030 over 390). I can buy a stroker kit for around 2,300 bucks that would make it around 445 ci. That's big enough to be competetive in my class (right Ray ? ).
I have 2 460s sitting out in the garage, somewhere, but my son bought me the Edelbrock heads, Victor FE intake, and Crane roller rockers a couple years ago so I figure what the heck, might as well use the parts for a while and run the FE.
Digger just out of curiosity would you be interested in selling that? If we happen to go forward with getting the 1975 Ford, it would be better then the 360 i think.
Got a little more done on the hitch. Being I'm a Cheapskate I decided to make my own height adjuster. I used some old receiver hitch tubing, a piece of 1" grade 5 threaded rod and some 1" nuts that I "found", and some 1/4" plate that I had lying around. It has 6" of travel and 6" of adjustment on the mounting. I still have to add some braces here and there but for the most part it's done.
And yes Alan, the new steel IS aging nicely !!! LOL.

RE progress
June 3 2008, 7:28 AM
Yes it is coming along and I do see that the new steel is aging nicely. LOL Hey if it was me, I'd make sure to brace it front to back. Run a piece of angle from the top to the frame or something.
It's going to be braced left and right( top center down to frame on each side ) and from top center forward left and right. You'll see in the next batch of pictures.
Still pluggin' along.
Custom Billet hitch bolt locks.
More paint. Notice ... No more power brakes !!!
Rear driveshaft angles.
Rear gears (4.56) are in. Ring, Pinion and open differential (welded now) $20.00 from Easy Pull & Save junkyard.
