I'm new here,i just bought a 1979 f150 4wd.And i'd love to turn it into a pro-stock,but don't know where to start.Any help would be appreciated.Any body pulling in Paris,TN this coming weekend.
Welcome Everett. Don't be shy, we try to answer most questions. You've decided to build a Pro stock truck, that's the first step. Now find the website of the association you want to run with and print off their rules. Also, we'll need to know so we can point you in the right direction. Next make sure your pockets are deep enough because you'll need some serious coin to be competitive. Now with that said, we do have a few gents from the Tennessee area that hang out here and could give you some advice.
Ok, now that I've warned you, if you still want to build, ask away.. LOL
I'd suggest you look at alot of old posts , they give you a ton info and ideas to think on
Good luck with your build.
P.S. I know just enough to get myself into trouble. Jason

I think if I had to do it all over again I would find an already built pulling truck. Especially now with gas prices the way they are and guys not being able to aford to get their trucks to the pulls.

I gotta agree with Digger. It would save you money to find a truck already built, even if it is just the rolling chassis, so long as it has the reverser, drop box and all the other drivetrain goodies.
here's your chance to own a first place pull truck for much less then it cost to build one........ proven on the track, and the only thing i've done to it in 4 years is change 1, i repeat 1 u-joint......... oh yeah.... and one hot rear axle from a trailer in oakley...... those kansas guys are so generous. and change oil and filters....... 16,000 and it's yours

IM NOT THE ONE WHO WANTS TOO BUILD A PULLING TRUCK. I SUGGESTED THAT EVERIT MIGHT THINK ABOUT BUYING ONE THAT IS ALREADY BUILT. EVEN ALAN AGREED THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA AND HE NEVER AGEES WITH ME.
MAYBE NOT TOO OLD BUT GETTING WISER. IT IS KIND OF A SILLY THING TO DO. AND I CAN SAY THAT BECAUSE I HAVE PAID MY DUES.
hey if that thing iis ready to pull theres one in Gering this weekend.

Digger you said it.

Digger you are the one who said they were getting to old for this crap. But you didn't say what crap. LOL.
If you can't remember who said what or wanted to build/buy want. It AIN"T your age. You are just stressin about the money you are, have and will lose on your retirement stocks.
I guess that tells us you are getting closer to your goal of retiring ! I'm sorry you lost so much money. But any of us that have a 401K probably have taken beatings in the last couple months.
PS. OLD TRUCK PULLERS NEVER DIE THEY JUST TURN TO DIRT !
"PS. OLD TRUCK PULLERS NEVER DIE THEY JUST TURN TO DIRT !"
So that's why some of these tracks are hard as a rock and mean and nasty... LOL

Oh heck, I'm not worried about the 300 grand I lost. That happened a long time ago. I just wanted to let Frosty know that shit will happen in life. He seemed a little worried because he owed 50 grand on a gas guzzler. He's young, he'll get over it. And I am already retired from Qwest with 30 years. And "crap" as in truck pulling.

Everett, I would not waist your money on any 460 block newer than 1972, even the best 429/460 factory blocks cant with stand today’s HP in a pro 4 or 4 super class, You need to check out the Eliminator or Ford motor sport blocks. The guys at Mid South are making some big HP along with a lot of other organizations, just check everything out before you start spending money. Hope this helps. Walt

I'll second that. If your starting from scratch, then start with an SVO block. the Eliminator blocks are good, but I'm not sure they are worth the extra cash over an SVO block.

As far as 460 engine knowledge goes. You might want to go to 460ford.com. There are a lot of vendors there and some good deals also.
You need to make sure the class you are building the truck for will let you run a after market block or a svo. I know a lot of classes around here won't let you. We run stock blocks and have pretty good luck just have to keep an eye on the main bearings if you turn them a lot.
