Gear Ratio

Last season I was plagued with U-joint and drive shaft breakage. I'm sure you all remember. After installing 1350 and some 1410 u-joints and larger drive shafts I am thinking that will cure some of the broken u-joints. After getting it out of the shop and taking it for a run down the drive I was reminded of the hubs getting locked up so tight I have to jack the front of the truck off the ground before I can unlock the hubs. My front differential has no tag on it that tells what the gear ratio is. I took the front differential cover off to see if maybe the ring gear would say what ratio it is but just a bunch of numbers. Does anyone know how to differentiate the numbers on the ring gear to tell what gear ratio it really is?

Digger, Count the teeth on the pinion and ring gears then divide the number of teeth on the ring gear by the number of teeth on the pinion. example ... 9 teeth on the pinion and 41 teeth on the ring. 41 divided by 9 = 4.56.

Thanks POS. .I did what you said and confirmed that both front and rear differentials are 4.10. Ken told me last year that the stock Ford hubs are a POS and they will get bound up like that. Find some aftr market hubs but I don't think they make an after market hub for mine. I have that graeat big hub that they put on in the mid 70's.

Digger where are you located? I will take $125.00 for them, just figured by the time you paid this plus shipping your about $50.00 short of a new set. Walt
