With a welded front end you need to have at least one lock out you can open up.
Otherwise it's bust city.

As for size of lines. I run 3/8" I.D. Hydrulic hose thru out the system.

Also for the cylinder you use, Try to keep it in the 2 1/2" X 12" Size range.
2" is to easy to bypass and 3" makes it steer slow.

Put a hub on it like Shazam suggested. I too am running 3/8" hydraulic hose in my hydraulic steering setup. I agree with Shazam on the bore diameter of the cylinder, but don't think you'll need more than an 8" stroke. You can put a mark on the axle and a mark on the tie rod with the wheels at full lock, then rotate them to the other lock (ie right to left or left to right) and measure the distance. That is the total amount of stroke you'll need.

We ran a 2 1/8 cylinder fully welded with flanges for 4 yrs broke the end last year on concrete parking lot, ran last night the first time with new cylinder bent it into a U on the grass. Might have just been a bad cylinder but a lock out is going in it this week just to much trouble with out it.
