Ok I dropped the front another 2 inches from the first run of the year. Let me know what you guys think and where improvements can be made on the truck as always dont be afraid to knock me I figure that can only make me improve.

i dont know much but, it looks like your front end is raising up bout 4 or 5 inches. in my opinion you are loosing some hitch height. could be costing you some. just my opinion. by the way truck looks & runs good!

The front end raises up a lot it may raise more than 4-5 inches.
It is something I am trying to figure out. The truck has quite a bit of forward rake in it and the front suspension is very soft. the Front can pull up a long way over center before the front tires even think of coming off the ground. Other than lowering the rear of the truck (taking away rake) how can I get the truck to not pull up as high yet (to keep more hitch) I have almost all of the available weight on the front right now?? I am trying to get every bit out of the chasis that I can so any advice will be considered..

i havent seen ur hitch but i have the same truck you do & i have a hitch very similar to dan's (there is a post with a pic on here somewhere) & mine only raises bout an inch. The hitch can raise the front depending on design. Your leaf springs may not be stock and could have too much travel, im just guessing. I have stock 1979 f250 leaf springs with quad shocks. again im not saying i know it all , this is just my 2 cents. LOL! maybe this can help !

I pull a 2wd and by limiting the front suspension from go only up, not down I gained 30 ft. the front of my truck used to pick-up almost as much as yours. So my advise would be load the front with the amount of weight you normally run and make a stop or use a strap to keep it from standing up. I was losing 2.5 inchs in hitch height just cause of the front end!

2wd

I've always heard that a 2wd should carry the front end about a foot off the ground, so what you did makes sense for a 2wd. However, I'm having trouble seeing how it would help a 4wd since we want the front wheels in contact with the ground.

Yeah, strapping the front down on a 4 wheel drive is bad news from what I have seen. Tends to make them jump real bad. Good luck with it.

I appreciate the advice I dont think I will strap the front down though. I do need to figure out how to not loose the hitch height though.

Thats simple, air up your rear tires, use tires that dont dig, and put more weight on the front of the truck. Or take away the leverage that is lifting the front of the truck.

P.S. Not to correct anything that has been said about it being physics, but try using geometry instead.

I am working on more weight but wouldnt the more air less tread and a hitch that want hook the truck be counterproductive or am i just over thinking everything?

Richard,

Sometimes what we think is better equals less distance, so to answer your question yes you probably are.

Go with a A/T style tire in the rear instead of a M/T, is what he's saying.

You can put stops between the frame and axle to raise the front of the truck. Make them just long enough that so when the front of the truck lifts that it raises off the stops. AT's on the back really made a big difference in my truck. I would reccommend trying that to anyone that pulls on packed tracks.

Try dropping the back of the truck down 8" to 10" and take some spring out of the front.
