ok, to start with.... let's say the track conditions are perfect, and each side and the center are all equal.... secondly all the engines are of equal power..... thirdly, don't let your brand loyalty effect your answers.
ok, here's the question
let's take 5 trucks....... all have stock drivetrain and the engine is 650 hp running at 7600 rpms.... all tires regardless of the brand have the same traction ability.
1. 1975 F-250... stock tranny NP 435 stock 205 transfer 4.11 gears 31 inch tall tires
2. 1978 F-250... stock tranny T-18 stock 205 transfer 4.56 gears 31 inch tall tires
3. 1978 F-250... stock tranny T-18 stock 205 transfer 4.11 gears 31 inch tall tires
4. 1972 K-30 ... stock muncie 465 tranny stock 205 transfer 3.73 gears 31 inch tall tires
5. 1972 K-30 ... stock muncie 465 tranny stock 205 transfer 4.11 gears 33 inch tall tires
basically, it's a gearing quiz.......
who's gonna win ignoring all of the other variables.... and just for giggles.... place 1 - 5.... who's gonna be last

run low range and granny gear, and you'll out torque everyone.......
if you have the torque to get your to 7600 rpms, and EVERYONE in this example runs 7600, then speed is the winning factor.......

Have to figure in a running sled or a drag sled. We run several sleds in our area and can run around 2 to 3 points higher with some than the other style sleds.

Re: OK, for all you 'gear' heads out there.... here's a question for you
i didn't forget anything, seeing how you're too chicken to pull against me, and these are the only combinations that I have pulled against.... it's obvious why my 78 T-18 4.11 7600 rpm pull was the victor more then not.... come to mitchell and prove yourself..... or is the price of fuel getting too high again?
well travis, you have a great point....... but as i said... taking all variables out of the equation except for the STOCK available gearing..... but yes, a great clutch is a huge part of a winning combo.
