Has anyone had any luck keeping a stock 205 together? I have pushed the guts out the back twice and now broke the output shaft. Is there anything I can do to keep it together to finish out the season with out going to the pro-fab kit? Going to go that route over the winter, just don't have the funds right now. Don't want to give up my second place points standing right now if I don't have to. I know Walt has some bearing retainers, but is there anything else that can be done? I also have an ouput shaft from a Dodge case to put in it. Sorry for the long post, thanks in advance.

You just listed your best options. Walt and Cory both can make retainers for you.

One other trick I was told about. Take a retainer and lay it on top of a piece of 1/4" steel. Drill a hole in the center to clear the od of the yoke and drill the 5 holes in it of the retainer pattern. Then lay the steel piece on top of the seal and with a pair of dial calipers measure the distince between the place and the outside bolt surface. Now make some steel spacers about .010 under that measurement. Now, get some longer bolts and bolt that setup together.
This will make the stock bearing retainer stronger but is a little more cumbersome to put together, but is easily done.

Honestly though just put the pro fab kit in as soon as you can afford it. It will save you a bunch of greif. Take if from experience talking! I ran a stock 205 all last year and broke it every other pass so last season was extremely frustrating. Finally got the cash this spring to get the profab kit and next Monday will be the first time down the track, so I'm hoping it goes well.

James I was looking at a pic of your truck (silver Chevy with red flames?), It looks like you have a lot of drive shaft angle which puts more stress on your output shaft along with the helical gears trying to push it out the back of the case, if you take some angle out of the shaft and install a bearing retainer at least on the rear output this should get you by for now.
