Howdy pullers, been awhile since I have posted anything on here. Just thought I would put a shout-out to the ITPA guys coming to Montgomery,IN on Saturday afternoon. Looking forward to it !! Can a guy get into the pits ? Last time I went to Montgomery they had that area pretty well fenced off, was maybe wanting to do a little investigating !!

Anyways, still in the process of getting my 1980 Chevy pulling truck put together. The Fiance' continues to take MY money for OUR wedding this november. Oh well, if I have learned one thing from this forum is to keep the Mrs. (or Mrs. to be) happy first, then do what you can. Few questions I had though, got the Dart Intake for the motor in the mail today and am getting pretty close to putting the motor-tranny-transfer back in the old girl and was wondering about motor mounts. At this time, I am just going to leave the motor in the factory location with the stock sm465 tranny and np205 transfer. The motor should be in the 550 hp area.

A) Should I just use the old mounts and once I get the tranny and transfer set, just use some iron and weld the mounts solid.
B) Buy some solid motor mounts. If so, should or can a guy lower his t-case crossmember to take some angle out of the rear driveshaft. Will the solid mounts have enough give to allow you to adjust the crossmember.
C) Eventually, I am going to get motor plates to mount the motor. Should I just go ahead and get them now along with the solid mounts ?

Just some questions I have been contemplating.

Before I call Travis and get a SFI bellhousing, anyone happen to know someone that has one for a BBC that mounts the sm465 tranny ?

Thanks,

P.S. I know how you all like to see photos and I will sure try and have some ready by the next time I post.

Dale good to hear from you again.. I've only been to Montgomery one time and I don't remember them having open pits, but things could have changed in the last few years.

Wife Lesson #2  keep'em happy, but don't let them bleed you dry...just need to find some hiding places for spare change.... lol

If your not planning to build the motor any hotter, stay with solid mounts, and if you have solid front mounts make sure the tranny can move. if both are solid and the frame flexes, guess what.. somethings gonna give and it's usually a housing. If your going hotter later then I'd go ahead and put plates on now.

Can't help you there, don't have any chebbie parts cluttering up my yard... lol

I tried doing this and then it screwed up the angle of the front drive shaft. I got a divorced transfer case and I was able to make things work better as far as drive shaft angles go. And divorced transfer cases are stronger anyways.
