i know ive aksed about tires before, but this is about tire size ! our rules say dot tires, 35 x 16.50 max tire, on whatever rim u can get it on ! my question is ? is bigger better ? some people say the bigger footprint the better. some say too wide doesnt bite they just spin on top ! just lookin for some opinions ! before i spend some $. several trucks in our class have 35x16.50 boggers on 18" wide rim ! can you compete with that with a 35x 12.50 bfg ? or 33x 13.50 sts on 12" or 14" wide rims! or would you go big also ! those big tires and rims are out of my budget unless they are used. just lookin for some opinions ! as far as track conditions i will take the opinion as it is from each area it is given. so whatever works in your area is what i want to know ! thanks ! riggs

You can make those big fat tires work on any track with the right air pressure.

If our rules allowed them I have as big a tires as I can put on there with as wide of rim that I could find.

The foot print is important.

Well, my teenage kids tell me I don't know much, but I'll try to offer a few comments for what it's worth. First a question. If wide tires don't bite then why do anyone running a bar tire go as wide and tall as allowed? Rims, well, as I understand it, the idea behind wider rims is to flatten the tread section out to give a bigger contact patch, however, I'm thinking that if the rim is too wide, then the tread section can cup inward in the middle actually creating a smaller overall contact patch defeating the purpose. Is bigger better, generally I believe yes, but not if you don't have the power/gearing to pull it.

i dont necessarily think a bar tire or cepeks is the greatest thing since nitrous! some pulls we go to, we pull a running sled with trucks that pull with cepeks and 500 ci motors ! they beat our best truck by 6 ft ! we are 472 ci, dot tires ! i dont know ! lol ! thats why im asking ! i think 1,200-1,500 hp trucks prob need a cut tire! less than that who knows. you guys are a great source of info & i appreciate all the opinions! if yall had our rules what combo would you run ? yeah i just started runnin the dick cepeks fun country 2 and i fell in love with them. i gain nearly 10 on the track and their a 33x12.50x17 and iv go 954.00 in them

well here is what I knwo from this years experience

we were runnin a 33/15:50/17 and skatin all over the place

switched to a 33/12:50/17 and picked up 10'

I guess it is all in your setup

How are you guys gaugeing your distance gain?? Is it by track distance alone, or comparisson to other trucks in your clases?? If it is just track distance, are you pulling the same sled usually??

yeah i pulled twice this yr at the home track and same sled 1 pull with my normal tires and the other with the cepeks and gained 10 ft and at the other tracks that i go to i usually got 5-9 place and the last 2 pull iv gotten a 2nd and a 4th and honestly my trucks not done that good since i was in the stock classes
