I ran a Pony Motor on ShaZam for many years it was a 5.5 hp Briggs & Stratton I ran two 36 Amp alt. with it I had a 3" double pulley on the motor and 2.5" double pulley on the alt. I ran dual belts with this set up motror running wide open and worked good for 5 years. and then one night it just decided to start eating belts left and right so I took it off and just added more batteries to the front of ShaZam. I now have 4 batteries on the weight bar. keep then charged up and haven't had a problem all last year.

Thanks Dan Would a 3hp with say a 36amp or 60amp altenator, keep up with haldex steering pump and not snuff out.

Nope .. you need a minimum of 5 hp. but 8 hp work slicker then snot.

i run a 100amp alt ant it wont keep up with a haldex pump unless u keep the engine at 4000rpm,

run a 4d battery just for the steering, hook up a momentary posh button switch and mount it to your shifter(i bought a shift knob with a trans brake button in it)also hook up a on off switch on the dash for the pump

reson is when u r driving threw the pits u can use the button when u turn and the pump wont run all the time, when u hook to the sled and r ready to take off turn the switch on dash on while pulling and off when done,u can pull all weekend on a fully charged 4d battery just running the steering

Thanks for the help guys I'll see what kind of motor I can come up with. Would a 8hp run a 100 amp altenator?

I went to the parts store and got two one wire GM 36 amp alt. they came on most gm car and trucks back from 1990 to 2000 I think.
