The End of "Cat's eye"

Hi there,
I just want to ask, if there are people,
who want to know the end of the "Cat's
eye" story (the fate of Hitomi and Toshio
and the secret behind the disappearance
of Heintz and his collection). Maybe I'm
to late to publish it and you all know it
already or maybe you just don't want to
know. The only thing I want to mention
right now is, that I know it from a german
manga magazin, the "AnimaniA" where they
published the story written in the "Cat's
eye" mangabooks 17 & 18 (The conclusion).

Sorry, but I don't know where else to write this... I was wondering if anyone knows how I can get a hold of English sub-titled City Hunter series..I've only seen 12 episodes of the series and all of the t.v. specials and movies except "Goodbye My Sweetheart". Now, all I can think about is wanting to get more City Hunter series to watch.. Please let me know, if you know where I could get more English sub-titled City Hunter series..

I've just recently become a fan of the t.v. series City Hunter and I don't know anything about Cat's Eye. I was wondering, which is better.. Cat's Eye? or City Hunter? What has more sucess by viewers in japan and asia and around the world? Cat's Eye or City Hunter?

Well, anyway... You will get an answer to your mail... This is of course my own opinion, and anyone is free to disagree with it!!
As a matter of fact, I don't even know if these animes can be compared!!! Of course, both stories are based on the work of Tsukasa Hojo, but...
Cat's Eye is first an older anime, and it is not difficult to notice it (animation, topics, music, and even the way the characters are dressed). The stoty mainly involves three thieves (Hitomi, Rui and Aï)struggling to recover their father's collection of artworks and a young inspector (Toshio) whose main mission is to put the Cat's eye team under arrest... As Hitomi and Toshio are lovers, that does not make things easy.... You should find a better description on this site...
For me, Cat's eye can be described as the following mixture (sorry, I studied chemistry...)
40% of action
40% of feelings (Hitomi fooling Toshio, wondering if what she does is right, Toshio falling is love with Cat's, Hitomi becoming jealous of her other self...)
20% of Humor
As for City Hunter, you saw it!!!!
It mainly involves Ryo ("city hunter")and Kaori (his "partner")
The first episodes are a bit "darker" (with Ryo actually killing some people, like this boxer on the ring), but things rather quickly change... The anime then focusses mainly on action and humor... And not the same king of humor as in Cat's Eye!!! Let's say it's a bit more "macho" (Ryo is often more interested in girls than in his real work) or what I would call "hit and smash" humor (don't you think Kaori is really awesome with a hammer in her hands??)...
Of course, the anime is more recent, and you can feel it (for the same reasons you saw cat's eye was older).
I like both Cat's eye and City Hunter, in fact! But I do not watch it in the same state of mind... If you get a chance to see some Cat's eye episodes, than you should not hesitate!!! Make your own opinion about it!!
I suppose most Tsukasa Hojo fans will like both animes, but perhaps for different reasons!!!

Thanks for the response.. Fu is actually a really popular name in Chinese.. I thought I was the only one who had it, because I live in Calgary, Canada, where there are less Chinese.
Now, I find myself interested in watching Cat's Eye after what you said about it.. When I get a chance I'll catch an episode or two. The thing I don't like about watching two different shows from the same anime author is that the pictures of the characters look to similar and I might not believe the character enough or enjoy the show too much because it looks like another character from the other show. I don't know if that makes sense at all, but don't you find that a little true when your watching the two shows. Doesn't Koari, Miki, Saeba and Ryo remind you of a character each in Cat's Eye?

I just wish to say some more things about the characters that look similar in the two animes... I suppose you've already noticed that Kaori and Ryo look quite similar to Aï and Toshio!!! Of course, Kaori and Ryo look more mature, but anyway, you can see both characters were created by the same author!!!
Well, I don't think Miki could be a "clone" of Hitomi. At the least not if we are talking about the same Miki!! I mean Falcon / Umibozu 's wife (I don't know how the huge guy is called in English versions), who runs the new Cat's Eye cafe...
Just to show that I have read all these manga a lot, I will howerver give you clues about the "clones" from Cat's Eye in City Hunter....
Cat's eye café : At the end of the Cat's eye (paper) manga Hitomi and her sisters are leaving Japan and go to the US... so the café is closed... The cat's eye café Miki runs in City Hunter looks quite similar on the outside!!! In the inside, the deco has been remade!!! Is it the same café???
But a clue that makes me think that the two stories are not totally independant : Hirano and Takeuchi, two inspectors that appear only in the "paper version" of Cat's eye also appear as "guests" in the city Hunter "paper" manga!
In fact, much of the clones can be found in the paper version of City Hunter
For Hitomi's clone ==> look for a girl called Sayaka in the second and third City Hunter book! She's a little younger (a schoolgirl) but it's truely the same character design
Another secondary character appears in the two stories : Shin Kaibara. He appears in Cat's eye manga and anime (eps 26 & 27) and in the City hunter manga!! I do not know if this name has been changed in the english version, but it has been changed in the french version of the anime!! Well, anyway, Hojo claims that the two characters are based on an english actor he likes (which one? I do not know)...
As you see there are indeed some related characters in City Hunter and in cat's Eye, but some important ones can only be found in the manga, and not in the anime... I suppose that's because the people working on the animes were not all the same (although I know that some were working on both!!)... Well, again, you are warned, but as I already told you, the best thing you can do is to watch the show and make your own opinion about it!
The last thing I want to tell you... I do not know if you've read the City Hunter manga, but if you liked the anime, you've got to read it as soon as you can. Especially if you like the kind of humor featured in the anime!!! In the books, it's even more "spicy", and really, I had great fun reading it!!!

Thanks again for the message.. Yeah.. I know that the City Hunter Manga is better than the series.. It explains more in detail and its more graphic and funnier.. The episodes are comming out here slowly.. it will be a while till I get to catch up to all the episodes that you've watched.. They are having talks right now of having City Hunter on t.v. I don't know when that is going to happen or if it will ever happen.. Canada has strange t.v. standards. I saw all of the Sailor Moon episodes on English-sub titled five years after or something, when they said they were going to run with the rest of the Sailor Moon series. And the Sailor Moon S series isn't even finish yet on t.v.
Like the Sailor Moon manga too.. The t.v. show is very weak compared to the manga.. I think the City Hunter shows did do a pretty decent job in translating the manga into a t.v. series.. Well, you pretty much know all that.. The one thing I don't like about Mangas though, is that they don't put any color to the drawings.. I don't know why that is..but it would be way better, if they just colored the drawings.. That's the thing.. American comic books are so awsome for their drawings and 'color', but when the comic book becomes a t.v. series, the drawings just don't compare to the comic book.. Where as Mangas, both drawings from the Manga and t.v. series is fine, but it only misses in color..
Ranma 1/2 is another anime that I watch..the series is almost over now.. but the other one that is like it, is Rumiko Manison (or something like that) and it too has the same clones as some of the main characters.. That's why I find it hard sometimes to take the first step and watch a second show by the same author.. Anyways, happy anime reading and watching..

I am beginning to spend much time writing messages for you and mta!!! Anyway, that's fine with me, because after a hard day of work, it's nice to think about something else! And it's nice to see that someone took a little time to answer you... I would be happy to run a web site like this one if only I had the time to do it!!! But as I can't do this, I have to thank Alessio for his great site!!!
Well, I'd like to discuss some things you wrote in your last message! In fact, do you really think manga is ALWAYS better than anime? (Sorry! Always and never are two words that I do not like!). In fact, my opinion is that manga and anime are two different (although closely related)things....
In fact the problem is that manga and anime have different imperatives... The limiting step in anime is mainly the time, while in manga, it's often the number of pages... Anime has to tell a whole story (even if part of a greater story) in a 20' episode, and when one episode is fully based on the manga story, the people making the anime always have to do some changes in the different scenes. Otherwise, I think some anime wouldn't be good at all!
Think of the Sailormoon Manga, compared to the Sailormoon anime (first, I must say that I like both very much)... The story in the manga is much more basic than in the anime. For exemple Usagi and her friends meet less characters. If you had to stick to the original manga, each chapitre of the story would have been translated in one only episode (for in the manga, most of the ennemies Sailormoon meets are quickly defeated, while they can be important characters in the anime). That would mean 53 episodes instead of 200!!! You definitely see the difference!! What's more, the manga was written in 4 or 5 years, and that would mean that the anime would be released at a rate of about 10 episodes a year!!!What's more, anime has a big advantage : you've got the sound, the music and the movement! And it can sometime spend more time showing what the character's feelings are. Again, in Sailormoon, Ami, Usagi and most of the characters are much more detailed than in the original manga itself (that is not always the case in City hunter and Cat's eye....). All that make anime great, if it can keep the original feeling of the manga... I like all these funny arguments between Toshio and Hitomi, Ryo and Kaori or Usagi and Rei!!! It would have been a great loss if all these great manga were not converted to an anime version!!!
Well, what about the advantages of the manga? For me it is clear that the main advantage is that you have the true visioon of the author, and that's a big point... Besides that, most of the manga-based animes are created because the original manga was very popular! So, of course, most of the time, you are not disppointed by the manga!!! Last but not least, manga has some great "visual deliria", with, wonderous graphic effects, special out-of-story illustrations and much other things that would not be possible in an anime.... And I don't think the lack of colours is a problem in manga!!! Again, some graphical efects in manga would not be so good looking if color had been used... If you've read Masamune Shirow's "Appleseed" or "Ghost in the Shell" or "Orion", you understand what I mean with graphical effects or visual deliria!!!
SO... All that to say that after all, manga and anime each have their own advantages!!!

Cà fait longtemps que je l'ai vu, et en fait, comme j'ai pas AB, j'attendais qu'ils sortent l'intégrale des vidéos de la deuxième saison pour le revoir! (J'ai acheté la première saison. Mais comme personne ne semble vouloir te répondre, je m'y colle!!
Bon, alors, voici ce dont je peux me souvenir au sujet de ce 73e épisode...
Alex (Aï)doit écrire une pièce de théatre pour l'école. Sa pièce a été choisie, et sera donc mise en scène... Cette pièce de théatre porte précisément sur Cat's Eye et Aï n'a rien trouvé de mieux que d'impliquer dans cette histoire Rui, Hitimi et Toschio, en les faisant tous jouer leurs propres rôles (c.a.d. que dans cette pièce, Hitomi joue le rôle de Cat's et finit, si je me souviens bien, par être démasquée par Toschio qui est assez effondré)... Dans les autres invités de la pièce, on retrouve une ancienne élève de l'école de Aï (assez fortunée, elle a réussi la bougre), qui portera un bijou (une broche, je pense) d'une valeur assez phénoménale... d'où l'idée imédiate de profiter de la pièce pour subtiliser cette babiole... Comme d'habitude, les filles réussiront à s'emparer de l'objet tant convoité, en le remplaçant par une copie. Là n'est pas l'intérêt!! Pendant la pièce, Hitomi se retrouvera dans sa legendaire tenue de Cat's face à son Toschio chéri et, jouant un peu trop bien son personnage (et profitant du fait que ce n'est qu'une pièce de théatre, en théorie...) avouera à demi mot qu'elle est bien Cat's Eye.....
Bon, voilà pour mes souvenirs!! Quatre ans après avoir revu cet épisode, c'est pas trop mal, non? Mais que se passera t-il ensuite?
Toschio a t-il compris les aveux d'Hitomi?
Comment pourront-ils éclaircir cette relation?
Les trois soeurs Kisugi retrouveront-elles leur père?
Cà aurait encore mérité un sacré paquet d'épisodes!!
Malhuereusement, ici, la série se termine un peu en queue de poisson, et aucune des questions de la série n'est réellement résolue!!!
C'est pas pour faire de la pub, mais à choisir, je préfère nettement la version Manga (papier, quoi!!), qui a le bon goût d'éclaircir pas mal de choses, et de s'intéresser d'avantage aux personnages (et il y a plus de personnages, en plus)...
La fin est un peu triste et un peu spéciale, cependant... question de goût! Mais çà c'est une autre histoire, et on peut en discuter plus tard pour ceux qui le souhaitent!!

J'aime toute sorte de manga et pas seulement les Cat's. Je dois avoué par contre que je regarde surtout les animées, mais j'aime beaucoup aussi celles sur papier...
Je te souhaite aussi un bon début d'année 2001 ainsi qu'un début de millénaire qui soit à ton goût!

Merci beaucoup donc d'avoir pris le temps de me répondre, et excuse moi de n'avoir pu te souhaiter plus tôt une bonne année 2001!! En fait, je pensais que (comme d'habitude) personne ne répondrait (d'autant plus que tu n'as pas vu mon message tout de suite, il semble)et je passais juste voir par acquis de conscience!!! De mon côté, je ne suis pas un "exclusif" de Cat's eye non plus!!! Je suis en fait un "grand gamin" qui a eu la chance (la malchance, diront certaines mauvaises langues) de profiter d'une époque où toutes ces séries passaient à dose assez massive directement à la télé!!! En fait, il y en avait tellement que j'en manquais pas mal (je ne suis tombé sur Cat's Eye que beaucoup plus tard, et j'ai jeté un oeil parce que je connaissais "City Hunter".... Bon, depuis, il y a eu pas mal d'autres choses!!!
Bon, à tes mots, je devine que tu n'as pas lu la fin en manga... Je ne peux que te conseiller çà si tu en as l'occasion.

Comme j'ai pu le constaté(avec ton échange avec Fu), tu es vraiment un connaisseur! Tes réponses et tes descriptions sont réellement intéressantes et précises... Tu pourrais carrément écrire un mémoire sur l'argument!
Je voulais juste te demander: dois-je te tutoyer ou vouvoyer, autrement dit sommes-nous de la même génération? Je t'ai tutoyé d'office(j'espère que tu ne m'en veuille pas...) car ce genre d'échange nous le permet sans autre...
Es-tu aussi un amateur de Dragon Ball Z? Dernièrement, les dernier épisodes de l'avant-dernière aventure sont passés sur le petit écran. J'espère que la suite ne tardera pas.

Hey, j'ai des réponses de tout le monde!!! C'est génial, çà!!! J'ai vu dans les messages de ce forum, le message d'une pauvre fille demandant qu'on lui écrive.... Cà datait de mai 2000, et c'était dans les cartes de visite... Vu que j'ai vu çà avant-hier, c'était peut-être un peu tard (à moins qu'elle ne se reconnaisse maintenant et qu'elle revienne, auquel cas cette fois ci je pourrai faire quelque chose pour elle!!). En tous les cas, je suis content que mes interlocuteurs répondent à mes messages!!! C'est qu'ils les ont lu et que çà les a un peu intéressés!!

C'est gentil de me traiter de connaisseur, mais j'aime pas spécialement le mot!!! "Connaisseur", c'est un terme un peu trop officiel et pompeux qui a été un poil sali par des tas de gens qui se prétendent connaisseurs, alors qu'ils n'y connaissent rien!!! Et qui font du tort aux vrais connaisseurs!!! Je préfère me définir comme amateur (dans le bon sens du terme) : quelqu'un qui aime quelque chose, qui l'apprécie, qui l'examine un peu pour en savoir plus, qui s'intéresse, et qui surtout est ouvert aux discussions avec d'autres amateurs de son style!
Je pourrais peut-être écrire un mémoire sur le sujet, comme tu le dis!!! En fait, j'adore discuter dessins, style graphiques, histoires, etc parce que j'aurais adoré avoir une activité assez artistique (style dessin, peinture, musique,...) mais que je n'ai aucun talent pour çà!!! A un moment, j'aimais bien écrire, mais pour çà, je n'ai pas le temps... Je suis sur, en parlant d'écrire un mémoire, qu'il y a pas mal de choses à faire découvir à ceux qui critiquent le manga sans rien en connaitre... Je comprends qu'on puisse ne pas aimer certaines choses, mais il y a tellement de styles différents dans le manga que c'est réellement ridicule de tout rejeter en bloc!!! Mais le mémoire attendra!! C'est que pour l'instant, j'ai une thèse de doctorat en chimie à écrire!!! C'est moins amusant, mais c'est quand même très intéressant!!
Bon, tout çà pour enchainer sur la suite... Le tutoiement et ma génération!! Alors à ce sujet là, soyons clairs, je ne supporte pas qu'on me vouvoie! Donc, tu as bien fait d'employer le "tu"!! Quand à savoir si nous appartenons à la même génération... je n'en sais rien, puisque je n'ai pas d'indications sur ton age! (je sais, c'est pas poli de demander leur age aux demoiselles, mais çà sera plus facile pour se situer...). Donc, j'attends une petite présentation dans ton prochain mail...

Et, déjà dit plus haut, je suis un ex-étudiant de chimie qui a rempilé pour une thèse de doctorat ("engagez vous!! Rengagez vous!!", qu'ils disaient).
Si tu veux d'autres précisions, demande-les, et tu les auras (enfin, il y a quelques limites....).
En ce qui te concerne... Tu lis les messges que j'écris à Fu, en anglais, ce qui suppose quelques notions et donc un certain age... Maria-Teresa, c'est pour des origines Espagnoles, Italiennes, ou c'est tout simplement une touche d'exotisme chez une pure française?
Désolé de te décevoir, Maria-Teresa, mais je ne suis pas trop fan de DBZ (et oui, il y a quand même des choses que je n'aime pas!!!). Je n'ai jamais énormément accroché sur cette anime, en fait... Ce qui me déplait dans DBZ, c'est la part beaucoup trop important de combats, et le caractère trop titanesque (en termes de jeux de rôles, on dirait "Gros-Bill"!!) de ces combats... Je trouve aussi certains persos un peu trop arrogants...(je te laisse deviner lesquels, c'est pas trop difficile, non? C'est au moins aussi facile que les premières questions débiles de "qui veut gagner des million?". Dans DBZ je préfère les passages "de répit", où les persos ne se battent pas, et ou on trouve encore un peu de rigolade... En fait, ce que j'aimais beaucoup, ce sont les épisodes de Dragonball (et pas de DBZ), où là, c'était principalement une série axée aventure, avec un large dose d'humour... je trouvais çà très chouette, et çà ne me dérangeait pas de voir un tounoi de temps en temps avec une série de combats... çà ne saturait pas tant que dans DBZ!!! Chacun ses goûts, quoi!!! Je suppose que tu n'es pas totalement d'accord et que tu as des arguments à faire valoir!!! On peut en discuter!!
Tiens, en fait, j'ai dernièrement remarqué que Dragonball GT passait quotidiennement sur une chaine belge... J'y ai jeté un oeil, et j'ai regretté que çà ne passe pas à un horaire qui me soit plus accessible!! Le dessin m'a plu d'avantage (plus fouillé, je trouve), et d'après ce que je vois, c'est un peu plus reparti sur la base du bon vieux mélange aventure/humour... Bien sur, j'ai vu qu'un épisode!!
Bon, voilà, mon mail est presque terminé, et j'ai toujours pas parlé de Cat's eye!!! J'ai justement prévu d'en regarder un ou deux épisodes ce soir, mais bon... çà fait pas lourd pour en causer... Sais tu si la 2e saison doit sortir en vidéo (j'avais acheté la première)?
Je rigole avec ce manque de conversation sur Cat's eye, mais j'ai remarqué que ces derniers temps, nous étions, ave Fu, parmi les principaux utilisateurs du Forum... Alors ce serait bien que ceux qui viennent ici pour discuter de la série trouvent ce qu'il cherchent!!! On ne doit pas être les seuls à le visiter pourtant!! On pourrait s'amuser à lancer un thème de discussion hebdomadaire (ou bimensuel) et dsicuter de temps en temps!! Il doit y avoir matière à discuter, et çà déridera peut-être ceux qui passent sans laisser de message!!! Je devrais en parler à Alessio!! Je ne lui ai pas encore écrit, en fait!
Well, dernière chose : comme tu le vois, cette fois, j'ai décidé de laisser mon e-mail... Tu peux donc l'employer si tu veux causer de choses plus personelles!! Mais évidemment, ce serait bien si on gardait une discussion régulière ici, y compris sur des sujets qui intéressent des amateurs de la série!!! En deux réponses, il semble que je me sois fait deux correspondants!!! Mais en fait, je n'aurais jamais osé me glisser à la suite d'un message comme celui que je t'envoie. Donc, il serait bon de lancer quelques sujets qui nous permetraient d'intéresser de nouvelles personnes, histoire d'agrandir le cercle!!!

Moi aussi je l'ai loupé mais d'aprés ce qu'on m'a dit, elles ne retrouvent pas leur pére et Quentin démissionne de la police:et Tam avoue à Quentin qu'elles étaient Cat's Eye mais comme il n'est plus dans la Police, il ne peut pas les arrêter...voilà j'espère que je t'ai aidé .

Je suis moi aussi à la recherche d'épisodes mais je n'en possède pas.
Par contre, j'espère m'en procurer très bientôt en me les faisant venir de France(car je suis au Canada) tout en espérant que ce sera à la bonne vitesse d'enregistrenent. J'aurai en premier la première saison mais la deuxième tarderas plus tard. j'aimerai savoir où as-tu prises les tiennes?

SALUT A TOUS J'AI EN MA POSSESSION QUELQUE EPISODE (LA PREMIERE ANNÉE) QUE J'AI COMPRESSÉ SUR DEUX CASSETTE DE HUIT HEURE. SOIT 16 HEURES DE CATS CONSÉCUTIVE. UNE BELLE FIN DE SEMAINE EN PERSPECTIVE.
LA QUALITÉ DE L'IMAGE VARIE D'EXCELLENTE A EXECRABLE. C'EST POURQUOI JE SERAIS INTÉRESSER A ECHANGER CELLE QUE J'AI AVEC TOI OU TOUT AUTRE PERSONNE INTÉRESSEÉ.

Ahem, j'ai trouvé quelques images, mais ce sont principalement des images de sites mentionnés en lien sur cette page, qui comprennent surtout des scans du manga original (papier)....
Si tu n'as vraiement pas grand chose, je peux te donner l'adresse... et si tu as des bonnes adresses, je serais assez content de les connaître!!!!

Can somebody please tell me where I can get the Opening Song of the Second Season as MP3 download or at least the title? I can'T find it anywhere, but I like it so much!!! (heard it on the Animagic this year)

French editor Tonkam (http://www.tonkam.com/) states on its site "Nbre de volumes au Japon : en cours". So it might be the series is not completed yet.

In newsgroup fr.rec.anime, it was claimed that Manga Allman published the last episodes, and thus volume 14 (expected in January 2001) should conclude the series.

J'écris en français pour tous mes compatriotes mais aussi les autres. Ca fait du bien de voir autant de gens se réunir autour de ce dessin animé. Il m'a donné le goût de dessiner et j'espère que vous m'érirez pour échanger des dessins originaux , des infos et des vidéos. SALUT A TOUS!
