concern over new show

by mom to russian son

I too would like to express my concern over the new show on Fox. As a soon to be adoptive mother to an older child from Russia I am upset that a game would be made out of finding a biological father. I don't believe Finola Hughes understands the amount of pain this show will cause the adoption community. I greatly respect her and have enjoyed her acting in the many shows in which I have seen her. I would like to request that she reconsider her involvement in this show. I understand the desire to reunite adoptees with their biological relatives. This could be done without deception (on the part of the the fake fathers) and without prize money. The money being offered is offensive to those of us either in the midst of paying for an expensive adoption or those involved in funding their seach for biological family.
The idea of deceiving an adoptee greatly upsets me. I cannot imagine the hurt that would cause my son if he were deceived even for a short time about who his birth parents were.
My other worry is over the title. The last thing I want is for some child in my son's class asking him "who's your daddy?" It will be obvious my son is adopted, we will be working hard to help him adjust to a new country, language, surroundings, school and family. He will feel different enough without this show creating an opportunity to tease him about something so very personal and sensitive.
This is just my story, others in the adoption community has their own story about how this show bothers them.
