Charmed

by Johnny Wildlike

Finola's appearence on Charmed was great.
It's nice to see that they gave her more scenes that usual this time around. "Patty Halliwell" brings a touch of class to this show. I hope we see a lot more of her.

Re: Charmed

I think it would be so cool if Finola did a bunch of shows, maybe she decides to come down and help watch the kids while the girls are fighting demons. Or maybe she even helps to fight the demons with the girls. Oh that would be neat!

Patty should use her power!

by

I think it's time Patty got to slay a slimy demon for once. In the very least there should be an episode where she gets to use her freezing power to save/assist the girls. I know, I know. According to the "rules of 'Charmed'" a witch is supposed to lose her powers upon death. This has continually been contradicted by the writers in allowing also long-dead Grams use her telekinesis. Sigh Bad writing, what can you do?

Also, I totally love Finola's accent. It's sexy and culutred at the same time.

How Do I Look?

by

Finola, I have been watching your show for about a year. I've really enjoyed it up until recently. I started watching an episode where a girlfriend had her boyfriend get a makeover. In the begining of the show you said that she felt their relationship wouldn't survive if his style didn't change. I think that is a very negative message to send to your viewers. If his girlfriend is so superficial that she is only with her boyfriend for his looks, your show should not be supporting it. There is more to a relationship than mere physical apperance. Clothes are just clothes, they don't represent the complete person. The other episode that I was very upset with was the girl who wore the devils horns and cat ears. First off, I was very appalled at your fashion consultants comment that it is better to be blind than be ugly. Your show has repeatedly made the suggestion that people who wear glasses are less attractive than those who wear contacts. What a horrible message to send. Also, I think that her fiance made a very important point at the end of the show when he said that if he had met her looking like her new make-over, he wouldn't have talked to her. I think it is important for your viewers to know that relationships are made from people who respect and care about each others individualities and uniqueness. You, as the host should have jumped right on that comment and supported the idea that he loves her for who she is, not this image that other people wanted her to be. If your show continues to allow these messages to go on your show, you are going to perpetuate the myth that how someone looks is more important than the type of person that they are. I hope you take these suggestions and commenst to heart. Hopefully there are other viewers out their who are just as upset by these messages as I ma, so that some changes can be made.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Curious

by Ally

Some people may feel your concerns are vaild, but I wonder why you chose to address them here. I don't believe that Finola is brow beating anyone to appear on this show, nor is she a one woman show over there on the Style Network. Posting this great message of concern on a message board will hardly set the wheels in motion for great change. If your concerns are truly that great, you may want to contact Howdoilook@eonline.com and discuss them with the people who actually produce the show.

An Alternate Opinion

by Justine

I have a comment to make about How Do I Look? as well. Despite the fact thar there are moments on this show that make me cringe, I don't know if it's all as controllable as you may have suggested, Concerned Educator. The simple basis of this show is that someone(s) turn someone else in and they obviously have issues concerning the someone's appearance. The someone being made over knows what's going on since I'm sure this is not the first time their closest friends or relatives have expressed concerns over their appearance. Additionally, since these accomplices are there to give their honest opinions, they often do that. I agree that perhaps they should have the sense not to be as brutal as they sometimes are since it's bound to be hard enough being stripped down to nothing on television, but that's reality television. People go there and say what they feel and it's not always nice nor are they always thinking ahead so they can lessen the harshness of their statements. If you watch any other reality television show, fashion-related or not, you will plainly see that it hardly sheds the best light on people. I don't think you can honestly do anything about someone like the girl who was threatening to dump her beau if he didn't clean himself up. It's not a scripted show, if she felt that way, she felt that way. Neither, you, I, How Do I Look?, Finola or anyone else can change how that girl feels.

Don't be so naive

by

Do you really think these shows are not in the least bit scripted. Let's remember that reality shows started with shows like Jerry Springer. When Springer was still doing radio and was considering doing a pilot for television, a friend of mine called into the show to complain about her husband's yappy dog. They thought this was a great idea for their new show, but thought it would be a better idea if the husband complained about the dog and wife pretended to love it. They went along with it, were given a great script to follow, and have a recording of themselves on one the first Jerry Springer shows with her loving the dog she hated and him hating the dog he loved. Yes, these shows are based on truth but are far from it.

I agree with what was said and I would like to add that although alternative, the girl with the cat ears had her own style and was not wearing a mistake.

Awesome host

by Marie

I have read E-mails recently and in the past that I totally disagree with. I cannot help but feel that it shows that many people focus on the negative instead of the positive. I just watched an episode of How do I look that had originally aired about a month ago. Finola listened intently to a mother who had survived cancer twice. When the mother began to cry after her loved ones expressed concern over her lack of interest in wearing something nice, Finola is the first one to jump up to hug her. Finola mentions that she thinks this mom has an incredible spirit and that she is glad she is on the show. She also tells her that she is an inspiration. At the end of this show this young mother cries as she says she feels pretty, and anyone who was paying attention to the host can see th beginning of tears, Finola than says to the family "Do you want to Hug her?" What I think some viewers forget is that this is a show in which the family submits the member for a makeover, but the person who is on the show has to agree that they want and need a makeover. Many people get into a rut and need help. It isnt always easy to hear the truth but every person is thrilled at the results. That is what Finola realizes. She is an awesome host! I will continue to watch as long as she remains the host. ;
