I think we are forgetting what the show Emergency! was about, not relationships outside of their job but the job they did as paramedics.(We hardly know what kind of husband Roy was) As for Johnny being shallow I don't think so... you don't handle patients the way he did and be shallow. It takes a great deal of depth to do the job in the first place. I just think Johnny was insecure where women were concerned. I like it the show made him that way. They could have portrayed as a stud, but instead they made him a normal guy with looks. By the way if Johnny would be portrayed today he would be ADHD. And that in itself can explain his trouble with women...

Speaking of E! fan fiction....
Although the writers have the right to write Johnny/female stories for fun, I'm not really a fan of Johnny/female HET stories. I don't read Johnny/female stories that much, but only a few ones that are PG-13 or below. Most of the times, I personally enjoy reading the Gage/Soker stories in either friendship or M/M sexual relationship. Following from my heart, I've written a lot of Gage/Stoker "slash" stories for my pleasure. It has nothing to do with the E! show. It is just the writer's creative writing for fun in E! fandom.

My response to this is: the question was, "why did Johnny strike out so much with girls on the show?" While the show was about the job of being a paramedic, it was also a show about a set of characters we grew to love. They had to develop these characters and give them personalities in order for us to appreciate their work as paramedics...laugh when they laughed...cry when they cried, etc. So I think having Johnny strike out with the girls was the writers way of gaining sympathy from female fans, LOL. They made him picky, as in Shawn's post...but in fanfiction we have the opportunity to rework that perception of him to a degree.

And Tigger bounces back with:
Well...the slash issue opens up a whole new can of worms g. And I ain't going there...except to shudder. Not my Johnny, LOL.

Before I ever discovered fanfiction, I had made up many a hurt/comfort story for my favorite characters through the years...but I never in my wildest imagination pictured 2 men together. Okay...I'll not get started on this soap box, LOL. Shutting up now. Clicking button. Going back the the parenting mode...homework, chores, etc. etc.

Johnny/Women/shudder

Ok...I gotta agree here....
Johnny in a M/M relationship....shudder ! !
There was nothing about his character on the show to indicate he was into that....Johnny loved women !
I personally don't think its a credit to this character or anyother on the show, to write them as gays...sorry, it's just my opinion and I stand by it !

No way, no how. Don't see it no how. You can imagine what you want, and most of us do, but homosexuality was not part of Gage's make up. It certainly wouldn't have been canon. I don't think the first overly homosexual characters showed up on TV until the 80's. But not in a fictional fire station numbered 51.

I would agree with you. I can't see any of the guys in a same sex relationship.
I do really like what many of you have done with the characters in developing them beyond the show. I think it would make a good story to explain why Johnny strikes out so many times with women.
We know just bits and pieces of their personal lives, and I have to admitt I like the stories that explore those areas of the characters.
Thank you to all who write and keep the characters true to how the show portrayed them.

I think you're right about Johnny probably having ADHD after watching the show for the first time in years. I have never been officially diagnosed but I probably have the same disorder which probably explains why I identified so strongly with John as a child.

Johnny and Women

I believe that Johnny is looking for the perfect women. We all know that no one is perfect. This is why I believe Johnny does not find the right women. I agree that Johnny is keyed in to looks first but what man is not? I perfer that Johnny is with a women. I believe that alot of the slash stories make johnny out to be a weak uncaring person. I believe that Johnny and Roy character are to manly to enter into a relationship. I also believe that Roy is still truly in love with Joanne. I also believe there is some chemistry between Johnny and Dixie. Sorry but this is just my opinion.
