Is there a scene from E! that stands out for you? A particularly moving or exciting moment?

One scene that comes to mind for me is the episode when two guys are in a car filming a movie or TV show or something, and they're doing a high speed chase and crash. Seeing that the men are trapped, another man picks up a torch in an attempt to free them. Captain Stanley sees this just as the engine arrives. He tries to stop him, but is too late. There is a huge explosion. Stanley is the first one out of the engine and begins barking orders. The men in the car are crispy critters at this point. Roy runs toward the car, and Stanley pushes him back, and tells him not to look.

To me, this scene shows the bond the guys had. I love how Stanley protects Johnny and Roy from an ugly sight. I don't remember what episode this is though.

Well at the moment I can't think of just one memorable moment. Hmm. I know I use to always chuckle during shows where Johnny was moving quickly or doing some rigorous activity and he was the only one of the entire group that you could hear breathing. LOL!! Must have the microphone right next to him or something. I always thought, 'Good grief, he'd make a good obscene phone caller in a movie'. You know, breathe really heavy into the phone. (Just kidding!!!)

Memorable Scenes

January 28 2003, 8:41 PM

There are a couple of scenes / eps that I remember from when I watched E! as a kid in the 70's, though I'm not sure why. All I know is that when I saw them in reruns in the late 90's, I was glad that they were actual memories and not imagined!

One is the ep "The Lighter Than Air Man". I just remember the crossing guard landing hard on the ground and thinking there was no way that Roy could've run him over. The other is the under-the-house rescue. I think it's from "Musical Mania". It's the one where the guy's house is sticking out over a cliff and he's trapped underneath it. All I really remembered about that one was Johnny telling the guy it was going to "hurt like hell" when he moved him.

It's strange the things that will stick in a kid's brain!

After having seen all the eps several times as an adult, I'd have to say that some of my favorite scenes are when Johnny is interacting with children. Not the ones where he's intimidated by them, like the brainy kids he showed around Rampart. Not the ones where they're brats, like in "Details". I'm talking about the ones where they're at a call and he's trying to keep them calm or get information from them without scaring them. Like in "Loose Ends" when he's talking to the girl in the back of the car, or when he's trying to get information from the sister of the diabetic girl they saved from a fire.

As for comedic value, I think any scene where Johnny's trying to pick up a girl or impress a girl is just too funny. He just tries soooo hard! And, like in "The Stewardess", they're completely disinterested until he's himself and isn't trying to impress them. Then they can't get enough of him.

Anyway, that was way longer than I meant it to be!

I think my most memorable moment on EMERGENCY! was when John was hit by the car. It shocked the hell out of me and I was so hyper afterwards I had to sit down and write my feelings out. I atually dreamed this entire episode in 1995, 14 years after I'd first seen it.
There are other scenes that burned themselves on my brain. It was weird reliving them when I was trying to find episodes once again 2 or 3 years ago. I think the episodes that stick in a person's mind are the ones where a person is affected emotionally.
One other moment I will never forget was when NBC broadcast THE GREATEST RESCUES OF EMERGENCY! before they had broadcast the previous 2 movies. I had problems that the series was finished for good because the guys were no longer paramedics, and I felt really ripped off because the series was over before all 6 movies had been shown(of corse we now know what happened to the other 2 episodes) and i was up most of the night stressing out because of it. I still remembered the 24th anniversary of the night a few weeks ago.

Problem

January 26 2003, 5:01 PM

I love the scene at the end of "Problem" (I think it was that ep) where Roy was in the burning house saving a child and his lifeline burned through. Johnny pulled on the rope and came to the burnt end. When he tried to run into the house, Cap held him back, but good ol' Johnny lunged forward one more time to try to get past Cap! He was BOUND and determined to get in there to save his partner!

My fave's

January 26 2003, 8:10 PM

Not surprisingly -- especially to those people who know me and my obsessions -- my most memorable moment is from Virus:

Gage is sprawled on the roof, panting and shaking, his face flushed and damp. Disoriented he struggled to lift his head. "Roy, I think I got it," he gasped, slumping.

"Yeap," answered Roy, biting his lip, his hands already busy with the heart attack victim.

Sigh Then there is that moment in Frequency:

Gage bit his lip. Slowly he shook his head slightly, stopping Roy's words of comfort. "Give me a minute," he demanded, his voice breaking.

Or how about that second in Fair-Fight where Gage is digging for the HT: He looks up, his face covered with dirt and sweat and is so intense....

OK, got to breathe. In... Out...

Most memorable

January 26 2003, 10:52 PM

One scene I can recall of the top of my head I think is from "The Exam". Johnny and Roy are sitting in the squad after a run and Johnny is telling Roy how much being a paramedic means to him. I think they were contemplating what they would do if they didn't pass the test and had to go back to hauling hose.

Re: Most memorable

My favorites are Honest, Problem and Promotion.
Honest showed Johnny's conviction to a noble virture even when Roy gives him trouble about it.
Problem it me was nice because Johnny was the voice of reason instead of Roy. It showed another dimension to Johnny's character.
In Promotion Johnny showed the depth of his friendship for Roy when he didn't try to interfere with Roy's chance at promotion even though he knew what that promotion would cost him.
It was alway fun to see the ranting and raving Johnny would do and the silly things he would come up with or the pranks Chet would pull on him. But it was a nice change to see he had depth to his character when it counted.

Memorable Moments

January 27 2003, 10:43 AM

I'm watching a tape of E! episodes and was reminded of another moment that always got me. It's in "Frequency" when Johnny tells Roy he wished it had been Roy telling Drew's wife he was dead and called it a weakness of character. Roy told him it showed that Johnny was human. The next scene was Roy and Johnny talking in the locker room and Johnny made comment about not being the ones left behind. Always made me think since I could put someone in that position because I'm a police officer.

My son and I were watching the episode Heavyweight this morning, there's a scene towards the end of that episode where Johnny says: "Well I guess there's times when being a skin out of condition type comes in handy." then he looks at Roy and gives a smile that could melt the Arctic. I'll tell you that scene still makes me weak in the knees and with a smile like that who needs words.

Memorable Moments

January 27 2003, 10:07 PM

This really isn't intended to be as much of a "plug" for a story as it sounds, because I "wrote" it for the enjoyment of all E! fans who want to remember just these kind of moments from the show.

If you haven't seen it already, go to Emergency!Universe (www.emergencyuniverse.com/stories.html) and look up my latest, called "Snapshots."

It's not really a fan fic story -- it's dialog moments from somewhere around 100 episodes, from one-liners to complete conversations -- I tried to capture every uh, um, pause, stutter, yeah, well, and maybe -- exactly as it was said on the show. There are a few pix here and there, courtesy of Tigger and Nexxie, as well.

While you're there, check out Sparky's short little story, too, "One More Minute." If you like Johnny rants, you might like that one.

E Memories

January 28 2003, 10:15 PM

Gosh, there are soooo many special ones. "Promotion" when Roy tells Johnny he will take the promotion & then the moment he tells Johnny he wont"OK but next year for sure". Then the one in the ExamI think)when Johnny talks about rescuing a child(I call it the DARK shot when Johnny is so intense & the background is dark!!! SIGH!!!and the one in the last epis when they are promoted & are leaving & Johnny tries to talk to Roy about them "not" being partners anymore. (A tear!!)
Gosh so many good ones is hard to relive. And the one where Johnny is stuck in the old tunnel or mine shaft & Roy has to wait on top not knowing to they have enough air below!!! And BTW thanks to Nan M for the memories!!!!!!! There are some great ones on "snapshot"!!! I think my favs are the "serious" talks between the two partners. Like in Frequency and some others. Think these shots are what have given a lot of us E fans & writers an insight to the characters that have been developed today(surely were NOT back then) but there had to be a foundation on which to built & mabye that is where a lot of fanfic writers took their cues.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS

January 31 2003, 2:45 AM

Good Question....I have so many great "Memorable Moments" from this show.

I love Johnny's interaction with "females"...thinking of how he was with Christy in "Women"...the two of them bantering back and forth in the Squad, with Johnny coming out on top there...LOL...Him trying to talk Sue into going out with him in "The Stewardess" and failing till he got involved in the "rescue" and she became impressed...one of my favorite lines from Johnny was in this episode when he was telling Roy and Dixie about her saying..."before I could ask her for her's, she asked for mine" and that grin of total satisfaction on his face....soooo cute.

I also loved Johnny during the rescues. He was so concerned about his victims. Remember in "Isolation" how he helped the woman with the cut on her arm, then the asmatic boy, and the look on his face as he listened to the man in the car who was having a heart attack as Roy questioned him...I also remember the details to the heart attack victim in "The SmokeEater", how both he and Roy tried so hard to bring that man back and how they reacted when they failed...awesome acting !

I loved his interaction with kids too, he was so great with them...one of my favorites was early on in "Cook's Tour" I believe where they get back from a run and the three kids are there with one of them handcuffed...it was so cute how he questioned them to find out what happened and as to how he solved it...adorable ! !
I also liked the scene's where Roy got hurt and how concerned Johnny was...such as in the eppy where Roy is overcome by heat and Johnny has to help him out...that scene of them just coming out was so good, you could feel his concern for his partner...I think the eppy was "That Time Of Year"...and when Roy got his bell rung by that exploding door of the train car...Johnny getting him out of there and walking him best he could to the squad...his concern for Roy was just so touching...that eppy was "Girl On The Balance Beam"
I loved the eppy's such as "Wierd Wednesday" and "Messin Around" and "One of Those Days"...all three were such cute episodes with alot of 'comedy' in them. I always liked the interaction of all the guys together...
Well I could go on and on about this...LOL...but I best stop...smile...Great Question...

Jen

Memory #1

Johnny getting hit by the car. Of all the eps I saw when E! returned to the airwaves via TVLand, that was the one I wanted most to see. I so vividly remember the thudding of my heart as I watched that as a teen--the car careening around that corner, Johnny's face, him catapulting... That was all I remembered of the episode, except for that scene when he's waiting for word on the men missing in the fire.

Memory #2

Johnny's helmet falling to the ground from the scaffolding in Virus. The first time TVLand broadcast that one, I was watching it with my daughter, and I remember saying to her before they even got the call to that scene, "I remember this one! His helmet falls off!"

Memory #3

Johnny riding atop the engine in Snakebite. Don't know why that part of that ep--I didn't remember the actual snakebiting scene, just him on the engine. LOL

Just thinkin' about 'em makes me smile.
