I think it's a Doberman that had it's ears trimmed.

Did you ever stop to think that the breed standards for this dog is cropped ears? It might be a show dog; although given his size he probably isn't. Of course his ears could have been rolled and taped before the show so that they will stand properly. I have Miniature Pinschers(four cropped and one natural), our breed standard now reads cropped or uncropped ears. The one with natural ears, his ears stand up beautifully. The Doberman Pinscher standard reads usually cropped ears. That means your dog will most likely not win if his/her ears have not beem cropped.

Now if they show in Europe then they must have natural ears as I think cropping has been eliminated over there. They are working on doing away with cosmetic procedures on dogs here; however it is a slow process. You want to speed it up, protest some dog shows. They usually have some in Tennessee fairly close to us as well as one in Priceville, and down in Tuscaloosa. You can go and talk to breeders, judges and ask them to change the standards.

I'm against trimming dog's ears, but is it really that big of a deal? The dog doesn't really feel anything. Did you have your child circumcised? That's even more cruel. At least the dog gets put to sleep.

Circumcision is nothing more than male infant genital MUTILATION! It is an archaic practice that serves no purpose in infancy.

Granted, sometimes it becomes necessary later on for medical reasons, but just chopping every male baby "just in case" is senseless and barbaric!

"As part of being untaught we take the attitude: If it ain't broken, don't fix it, ie, if there is no immediate problem do nothing. Only circumcise if something goes wrong - often reluctantly as a last resort after painful and prolonged treatment. This is in stark contrast to the rest of healthcare where the motto: Prevention is better than cure is stressed. There is a problem with thinking as we do. When does circumcision become necessary?

"There are a few situations where it is clearcut. If there is only a small opening in the foreskin so that passing urine is difficult, or when the foreskin is painful to pull back during an erection or won't return forward again. The latter is an emergency situation needing urgent surgery to avoid really serious consequences.

"But there are many other situations where circumcision helps prevent future disease or discomfort. We should seek to prevent problems arising, rather than deal with the problems once they occur. Let us look at some of these, in no particular order."

The above is quoted fromhttp://www.circinfo.com/benefits/bmc.html, written by a British doctor in an article entitled "The Benefits of Male Circumcision".
