but ksmm is incorrect. there is definately skill in rap. just not any musical talent. they dont "sing" and your average rapper doesnt know jack shit about musical theory. i had to listen to rap for 2 months straight and lemme tell ya, i didnt hear a single song that utilized conventional or unconventional creative method of musical theory. the most musical aspect of rap is the beat which is in some cases very elaborate. however this does not denote talent, since every rap beat is entirely synthesized, and requires no instrumental talent. also the tonal variation is almost non-existent. each song has an average of 2 to 4 notes in repetition.

but rap artists do have skill. rappers are some of the most underappreciated poets who write some god damn good lyrics. its too bad they cant put it to music.

Ben i think your right and your wrong. 90% is just manufactured crap, but there are a few they creative new styles and hiphop genres, take nwa, without them startin gangster rap with old skool hip hop beats there would be none of these new rappers comin out of every neigherboorhood in south central. Its all becoming a bit of a mess the rap scene yes but there is still alot of rappers that deserve some respect.

Sif you dont get bored of all the rock grunge shit comin out these days anyway, its all the same music just with guitars tuned different and a diff singer
