Hotsprings released Hotline 1.9 with Spyware...

It works nice, too (The client)..

I can download long file names without having to boot up Classic Environment..

I don't get mad error messages....

::Sigh::

Hotsprings doesn't realize that if you kill Hotline's war3z, you kill Hotline itself.

Read this:

Do not use this software!!! I installed this software soon after it was released WITHOUT READING THE EULA. What an idiot I was. What I missed by not reading the EULA should be obvious from the other posts. THIS SOFTWARE IS SPYWARE!!! Our company's employees use a series of popular software titles essential for our business operation. Furthermore, Company Wide licenses HAVE BEEN purchased for every single one of those programs. Emergency backup copies are made available to the employees by a PRIVATE Hotline server. Soon following the installation of this new Hotline Server release, our ISP received 3 Cease and Desist Letters from The Business Software Alliance (BSA). The letters included directory information only available from indexing done server side outside of Hotline. This included, but was not limited to, the paths to files NOT EVEN BEING SHARED BY HOTLINE. In other words, files we had on our server that were not part of our Hotline Server were indexed and made available to the BSA and, I imagine, other agencies. This indexing along with all server activity continued to be sent to the before mentioned agencies ever AFTER we stopped using the Hotline server and completely deleted it from the server?s hard drives. Only after a complete hard disk initialization and clean system install was the spying stopped! Please do not support this Spyware!!!

OH MY GOD

::deletes hotline 1.9 from hard drive::

Is this for real??? is there any other documentation about this claim out there??? I'm not taking any chances. Versions Prior to 1.9 are supposedly uneffected, correct? I am curious.... perhaps this guy had somehow connected to a BSA trojan server or a BSA affilate connected to his server similar to the way Verison is in court with the RIAA over that guy who was file sharing....

Please send me some more info

Read the EULA.rtf file It says that they send statistics etc

And go to:

http://www.versiontracker.com/php/userReview.php?id=18391&showRatings=&db=macosx

While this does not prove spyware, it's enough to make me stay away from it.

Too bad my main music server guy refuses to run on the .8 server.

And, yeah..the old Hotline Communications .8 should be unaffected, or I'm sure we'd all be fucked by now.

Well anyway of deleting this part from HL?
Incidently I blocked their ISP from my server. I was trying to block those stupid ads but that didn't work. I'm sure I did block HL though. Lots of people seem to like Frogblast so I will try that. Pitbull is good but that annoying "pay now" keeps popping up.
