tim we had a conversation the other week about someone (i think greg itchy) wanting to write his own zine, but instead putting it in ours, whats the crack? are their any developments. research suggests that a price increase will decreases potential sales and increases effort needed to sell zines. what do you think?

also rick maiden, are you coming out tonight?

We are going to get it out for the end of July
46 Itchy dude has 2 interviews to put in the zine.
I am not bothered if the price goes up because of more pages.

Mary said she would do the front cover, at least I hope she will because issue #3 had the best cover so far, i would not rule out putting Dans on though, but i aint seen it, as far as his contributions, the more the merrier, and reluctantly putting a Robots interview in. Dont care about the price, quantity and quality, you know. Err............Not Sure about a Mojo Pin interview though...got enough already and does not interest me, I know I said that we will print anything, but I dont want to put Shit in the fanzine, it aint fucking charity. A quid for 100 pages is a bargain you know

100 pages and most of it may not get read. People won't bother seeing the wood for the trees as they say. £1 is psychologically a big difference from 50p. The guy from 46 Itchy should indeed be welcomed as a contributer as the more submissions the better as this may well push up the standard of the stuff that finally makes it into the fanzine. But I presume that the bloke from 46 Itchy isn't becoming an editor as such. I'd argue that if there were to be any change in the editorial side of the things, then the addition of Luke Downing (if he wanted to accept) would be the positive move since he's put a lot of work into the fanzine, in regard both to practical work and literary submissions. Although I have actually done a considerable amount of actual editing (in the strict dictionary definition) on one or two articles in the fanzine so far, you'll all be glad to know I have no desire of becoming an editor ;o) Though I do want to submit many more pieces for each issue, starting next time.

i dont know why you guys want to keep increasing the page count, why not bring 2 zines out in the time you'd normally bring the one out? more pages does not neccessarily mean a better zine, and £1 is far too much to spend on a fanzine that gets most of its sales from pub goers. i have trouble convincing people to part with 50p half the time never mind a £1 which, as rick states, breaks that psychological price barrier that 50p, a piece of small change, not even half a pint, has done so well up until now. its a reccommendation of mine to start filtering whats going in, 'edit it', and produce a quality zine thats not rushed and we can finally say, thats near perfect, a fact that we have come no-where near, from the front page to its contents. why not keep it as 60 pages or so , and filter down from 100 pages of entry.
i think we should concentrate on walking before we can run, as we still don't have regular enough customers to be sure of £1` sales, and to gather decent feedback.

alright there, the craic is....

i wanted to do my own zine but it proved to be a little too much work to do on my own with everything i have to do on top of it (uni, full time job, band etc.). I asked tim would he be interested in taking the interviews and reviews i had and putting them into WiB. He said yeah and so im about to mail them to him...i never ever had sights on becoming an editor, dunno where thats come from really...anyways, hopefully y'all will like what ive done.

x dan

It sounds cool that we're going to have another good quality contributor in Dan.

This may enable us to have 60 pages of "perfection" as Downing puts it. Indeed, the addition of Dan puts is in a much better position than usual for our normal 60-odd pages issue.

But I think that expansion to 100 pages will be bad for getting our articles read, will lead to a lesser chance of a 'perfect' issue and will necessitate a price rise which will only be detrimental to WIB's sale potential.

What do you reckon Dan?

i agree with the point about the psychological difference between someone paying 50p and a £1 so i would be for keeping the price down...thats what for adverts are for surely?

i would also be of the opinion that the focus should definitley be on quality not quantity...i also think that 60 pages is more than enough for an a5 zine such as WiB, anymore then it becomes a book ;0) plus to fill 100 pages with content that is gonna keep the reader totally interested will take an awful lot of time and ideas which could be kept over for future issues...just my opinion like.

yeah, i agree with dan. price rises are poor sales tactics. advertisers however have been a problem up until now, the safest thing to do is with these 666 issues we've had printed, plan on selling 500, and plan for no advertising. that way we can work from the basis that wib can be debt free, a fact that at this moment is very untrue. luke stated earlier this month that when we sell enough zines wib can pay off the money it owes me. however, if we are planning on printing the same amount of copies or more for the next issue the wib funds will be seriously down. its going to be very difficult to sell all the issues this time as i haven't even begun with my 255 copies because of work constraints, and i hope we haven't tried for too much too soon. in future solid faninancial desisions should be made on the basis of what wib has in its funds, not what it can get, as this eats away at the potential of further issues. or means that more moey will have to be placed in the funds which theoretically means you are working in the red.
p.s im going on holiday to the carribean with sam next week, woooooo.

I was getting 'giddy' when talking about 100 pages. I think around 60 is fine for every two months. Alternatively we could do a 32 page zine every month, but that would mean a lot more work on the practical *backstage* stuff like going to printers, folding and stapling and more pressure on deadlines. So we should stick to around 60 pages every two months.

As far as money goes, we need to keep getting advertisers for help, we should stick at 50p if we can, which I think is possible. I need to look at accounts when I get home.

At the moment I dont mind working in the red, as long as we still roughly 'break even' with each issue. Ps-it will be hard this time ,666 copies was a bad idea looking back, but hey we learned, 400 is OK I think. So, I dont mind operating in the red for the time being, but it would be nice to make some money back to cover the initial investment back in the future.

Its nice to have another contributor in Dan, welcome. So far, main contributors has been Luke D, Tim and Rick, and perhaps Tear to some extent. Then we have had variuos welcomed contributions from others.
The only editors in WIB are Tim and I and that is the way it will stay, but thats not an issue, without the contributions we would be nothing, this is the work of us all. Note, special help for last two issues from Luke D is noted and thanked.

Again thanks to everyone involved.

I agree lets get the next issue of WIB out with the focus on quality, WE ARE GREAT.
