Remember that during the course of the interview with Pierre Berton, Bruce says at one point that: "'The Warrior' is probably not gonna be on... Because, you see, there is such thing in this world (referring to racism), I don't know, in certain parts of the country, right?". He certainly knew about it, as Lee had gotten the notification that he wouldn't be starring in the series 2 days before.
