just picked up a '84 Honda Prelude..........dual CV Keihin carb model and need some info:
Little history:
Picked up the car in Olney, Illinois (about 380-400 miles from me) where it had been sitting inside a storage barn for almost 6 years. Needless to say, the gas inside the tank was total CRAP, but it did start and run..........very well as a matter of fact, but refused to idle.
Drove her onto the car dolly, hauled it to the nearest autozone and picked up 2 new fuel filters (theres 2 on this thing.......), dist. cap & rotor, plugs, and some Heet gas line stuff along with some Injector/carb cleaner. Installed all this stuff there in the Autozone parking lot, hauled the car to the nearest gas station and filled the tank full of premium gas........
Hauled the car for about 100 miles on the dolly, figuring the nice Illinois back roads would help mix the gas/treatment together a bit........which it did
Got on highway 57 and decided to try driving it......unloaded her, fired right up but still wouldn't idle. figured ok, i'll run it and see what happens. Drove her approx 80 miles without any probs (except letting off the gas and she would die) and then noticed my headlights were gettin rather dim
Loaded her back onto the dolly and drove the rest of the way home. Got up the next mornin (Sunday) and went right to work on her. Turned the idle way up and ran her for about 2 1/2 to 3 hours (with the charger on her as the alternator appears to be shot) when the carbs FINALLY broke free and the rpm's took off like a shot Idled her back down and haven't had an idle problem since.........BUT.........now it has these probs:
1. choke doesn't seem to be working at all......NO clue on how to even check the choke(s) on this thing as i can't find a manual anywhere Anybody have any idears?
2. Once she's warm she idles like a top and doesn't miss a beat. BUT, it will die just like i turned the ignition off Usually starts right back up without a problem, but last night when it did it the last time i actually hadta crank it for a bit to get her to fire.........again, any idears?
