Drilling Tech Question?......
by
(no login)
Can anyone tell me the best way to drill through my frame for the tank mount. I'm already drilling a bigger hole than I need so I can weld a sleeve into the hole. I just need to be dead sure the holes are gonna line up on each side, any sugestions on some kinda jig to use.
I could take the whole thing apart and use the drill press but don't really wanna do that any help would be great

it's becoming a weekly thing I tellya. There was a kid in there, looked to be about 15, maybe 16, getting parts for a bike he was puttin' together. Richard (shop owner) gave him what he needed, he paid and skeedaddled. As soon as he left, the other 3 guys (customers - all older) looked at each other and then looked at Richard and said, "what the hell is that kid buildin?"
Richard, says,"Hell, I don't know. . . I think he said he's putting together a 97 softail."
I wish I woulda started that young. . . then I could have had that feeling of not knowing what the hell I'm doing over with by now. But at least I'll know by the time my kid is 16 so he can figure it out early. . . if I ever have one.

said he was sorry he couldn't be hanging around here much lately, but he has been busy moving all of his stuff around. . . and believe me, he has a lot of stuff and not enough room to store it and work on it. Along with that came working on the house, roof, etc., and fighting the oldest grandkid for the computer. . . he said he usually loses that one. But anywho, he says hi and fuck you!

What he needs is an airplane hanger to put all his stuff in.But i could take some of it off his hands too.
Course he'd probably sell the grandkids before the sporty.... :)And don 't worry Jim,i'm building my own frame and a jig too..But we would like to see you guys when you get some free time..later

....I originally ordered it from Rask. When I got it I thought it looked weird for the Triumph frame, but just went with it. Thought it was legit, my bad.
Really sorry about that man, my apologies.
Thanks on the car. Because of its state of affairs its not getting restored, but is getting a decent custom job.

I sent him an email a few days ago and got no response. I haven't seen him post on here in awhile, either. I'll have to call him tonight to see what he's been up to. I assume he's still workin' 1st shift?
HEY JIM! You out there? How ya been?

By the way, I'm gonna take a picture today at work of that tank. The flames are done. I just have to ghost them. I want to show you a pic first, tho. They don't look too bad the way they are because the blue/grape is kinda dark. My camera at home took it's last shot. . . I dropped it. I've got one here at work. I'm gonna sneak out at lunch with it and snap a few shots and see whatcha think.

I learned a lot doing that project. Now I remember why I used to get frustrated painting models as a kid. The flames turned out pretty good, but the gloss black didn't turn out nearly as glossy as I thought it would. Also, for as much sanding as I did, I was expecting the defects in the tank to be completely wiped away, but some still show thru. I should be able to put it in the mail to ya next week. Thanks again for the patience.

was one from work. I wasn't clear on how to use it and the picture quality was set on "best" and the pic was too big to post. I'll go take another shot at it real quick and see if I can post it.
