Hey Mark!got good news and bad news for ya...pics
by Bob (no login)
Good news is i got this all nicely done...
Bad news is is wont fit my bsa.for one thing the wing
you wanted hits the arm,so the shoulder on the shaft needs to be longer, and the flat tang that has the hole is too thick. It fits my tri perfectly, but is too fat for the bsa.The one on my bsa is .375 thick and the trump is .437.what i'm wondering is,is mine an aftermarket?can you you check yours?I'm sure a accurate ruler would suffice..but the pedal came out cool..later,Bob

...If ya gotta cut that %&*(%^%^( wing down/off to make it work fine! And after measuring(not in thousands er nuttin) it looks like my BSA pedal is about 1/4" smaller than my Triumph 500 so yer smaller measurements should be the right one? Sorry Bob but I`m just an old Farm-Boy that made it plum thru-da-sixth-grade only took 12 years! LOL

Give the image a moment to load and then run your mouse over it. It should start playing
WARNING it's a large file and could take sometime to load for dialup users.
I saw those 10HP units selling for like $450. There was also like a 13HP unit. Honda had some, but their toque isn't as much. Also, the Briggs and Strattons went up to 13HP.

.....I saw a good one the other day for $30 at Tractor Supply Company. Price it out, you might be able to gget one cheaper online.....Oh and check out the CFM rating, to corrolate with your compressor rating.....

had their cheapest gun with gravity feed container priced at over $100. Ain't no way I'm goin' fer that!
I'll shop around. . . got a tractor supply store right around the corner from me.
Thanks,

helmet started off a silver/grey color. Painted it burgundy. . . taped off the flames, and then painted it flat black.
This is my very first flame job. I learned from doing it...I'll do better on the tips of the flames next time. This is an auto-darkening helmet I picked up for $50. Goes to Shade 10 only. I figured this would be something I could practice on and if I screwed up, no big deal. Next project is a much fancier flame job on a metal desk I have in the garage. However, my project bike will have the flame job shown above.

the dents are no problem. If I knew how, I'd get em out fer ya, but Ratpan would be the one to ask about doing that. . . he's the sheet metal expert. . . and I don't know if even he knows how to do that. . . but he may be willing to take a shot at it.
As far as payin' me goes, you can forget that. Just cover the shipping to and fro. . . that's plenty. I will even give you a preview of the flames on the tank before I paint. . . kinda like the first pic of my helmet above. You guys pick the color of the flames you want and that will be the base coat. Then I'll lay the flames with the tape and shoot you a pic to see if you like. Now, I can do much more elaborate than what I did on that helmet. I can do real, pinstriped flames with highlighting and all that jazz, just like the classic cars have. But I can obviously do the simple "lined" flames like above also. Options are plentiful.

.....on a gas tank, take small gauge drill (1/8", or so) drillcenter of dent, insert a fit sheet metal screw about 2" long, pull. Dent comes out, fill the hole with weld, and grind smooth. OR, by a can of small Halite fire extinguisher (found in sporting good stores, bait and tackle, etc.), light a propane torch. Spray the area with Halite till frost forms on the metals decently, quickly apply flame. This an old trick used in body shops. Another thing you could use is those cans of compressed air, only turn it upside down to spray, the propellent will refrigerate.....
And another thing with the flames.....after applying the tape. go over the outside edges, lightly with fine, fine grit sandpaper. Breaks the tape edge, prevents build up, and gives a nice fade in.....

but I just bought a Wagner Power Sprayer. . . not sure if I can use acrylic lacquer in it or not. . . need to read the manual. I don't know much about painting, yet. But I can rattle-can with the best of 'em. I was gonna try the power sprayer for gas tanks. I may go buy a cheap airbrush if I can find one for under $75 or so. What other tricks do ya know?
Posted on Jul 21, 2003, 4:21 PM from IP address 66.148.218.43
....won't fragment and aerate the paint enough for finer finish painting. Fine if you're going for flat or such finish. Lacquer will probably need reduced with Linseed.
....If you want to go airbrush, unless you're going to do fine, ornate scenery or such, the cheaper ones work just fine. In your position I would suggest a cheaper a small detailgun(the ones that look like HVLP painters, only a smaller cannister), and a cheaper GRAVITY FEED airbrush. The gravity feed has a bowl on the top of the gun. This way you don't have to rely on precision of airpressure, vaccuum and all that jazz. It is important to have a proper compressor. The higher the refresh rate(VPM) the better. Look around, and do your research. Going for strictly airbrush compressor is not necessary. I have a Craftsman that works just fine.(In fact if you were interested, I could part with reasonably). Also Cambell-Hausfield now offers a compressor set-up, that operate as a HVLP, without the high volume. Works good, and cheap, made especially for painting applications in general....found at TSC.......
Hope this helps some....any questions please ask....

Thanks for the info, OS! That is very helpful!. . . I bought
by CC (no login)
a cheap airbrush last night for $40. I'm gonna see what it can do and what I can do with it. It's just a small one, but for small jobs, I think it will get me through. I will probably graduate up to a nicer setup later. I agree with that canister being above the gun theory. . . makes a ton of sense. I doubt the OL will let me invest in too much more "motorcycle stuff" as she calls it. I'm already way over my limit. . . LOL.
Thanks again for the info, though. Printed the post and put it in my "Shit I Need to Know" file.
