I never heard back from Doug yesterday on those lifters & blocks, I'll try again today, I was thinking about asking over on Terry's board about them, Seems they have a lot of Sporty stuff over there ??

Look at the time, It's Beer thirty already ..... And Ma's cooking outside on the grill, Think it must be kick back time
Got a bunch of outside stuff done today and pulled the frame work for that jig around to the front of the shop and ready to get started on it, going to be nice till the weekend anyhow ......
Posted on Jun 22, 2003, 6:12 PM from IP address 216.196.149.231
I'm going to finish up the trailer that's in the driveway now and pull the frame over to start putting the jig together.
I'll get some shots of it and post when I get it setup, Think I'll start on a frame for the Horex first and see how well the design works, Those parts will finish the jig and I know the pieces I have already gotten from you look great, Now we'll have to see if it makes a straight frame ....
Thanks for all the help Bob, couldn't have done it without you !! .......

<<WARNING>> Choppa Goblins and Indian Spirits on the Move!!
by Mark (no login)
Yes again they have struck, the book is pretty simple to use but the "INDIAN CHIEF" artifacts are fer the purpose of breaking a bad HEX! All ya need to do is place 1 arrowhead on the MG,1 on the Dresser(HD) and the last one on the 55 PAN! Once in place you must call fer the Indian Spirits to come help by Chanting.......I`m Sir Evil I`m the Best, Please OH Spirits remove this HEX, I`m just a guy known as the PAN,and you are the Great HD Indian MAN!!(Must be chanted 100 times) Then Alakazam and ......................POOFF No more Floods,Computer Problems or MG Wheels comming off!! Hope this helps Ha Haaaaaaa

Does that mean Finders/Keepers?? Ha Ha I would say put 1 arrowhead on the Computer and 1 on the TV but the Computer seems to be working and the INDIAN SPIRITS really don`t react well to electronics(tried it on the lucas electrics on the BSA). But those Arrowheads should be Genuine,my wife`s grandpaw owned an Indian Mound about 3 miles from my house and when the farmers plowed around it in the Spring he would walk around and pick `em up by the box full! Not worth much now but in maybe 100 years `er so ya never know! LOL Mark

Everbody repeat over and over "RATS-PANS" "RATS-PANS" 'RATS-PANS" leave "Sir Evil Alone"!!

Guy's Mark has been a BIG help, regular Johnny on the spot for me.
He dropped whatever he was doing and drove through the flood twice, once his son, Jason drove the MG to the hills, Thank God the wheel didn't come off then !!
Second time coming back with his trailer to haul my bikes to the hills and store them for me till the water went down.
I can't even come close to thanking him enough in words for all the help, all with just a call, sometimes ya meet some real fine folks on the internet !!
Thanks again Mark and Jason, My pleasure to have meet both of ya .........

I got to tinkerin' last night and I ended up puting my new risers on my bike with my old handlebars. This allowed me to keep all the cables and wires I currently have and I don't need to hold off on sending you those risers. So these are on the way to you today:
Here are my new risers with my old handlebars. They put my bars right where I like them. Now I have a clean pair of Apehangers I don't need, but hey, ya never know when they'll come in handy.

Just remember, the quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket. If I knew then what I know now, my first car woulda been an old Pan.

What is the difference between DOT 3, DOT 4, & DOT 5 brake fluid? Is it just how little it will compress? Does DOT 5 compress less than DOT 3 & 4? And what the hell does DOT stand for (Department of Transportation?)?
I'm gonna go grab a towel to get this water out from behind my ears.

The major difference is that DOT5 is silicon based. You should not mix DOT5 with any other type. In older sytems it has more of a tendency to creep past the seals, leading to leaks. On the plus side it doesn't absorb water from the atmosphere like the other kinds do. And I believe it has a higher boiling point which is essential in modern systems where some quite exciting temperatures are generated.
DOT4 is simply an improvement on DOT3 whilst still using the same basic technique. If you suspect you have DOT3 then there is no problem with changing it out for DOT4. There isn't the same creep problem you can get with DOT5, HOWEVER, if you have really crappy fluid in there once it's all bled and ready to go you will have higher pressures in the system which can be the last straw for tired old seals.
If you are planning on switching to DOT5 (which doesn't attack paintwork apparently, which is why a lot of custom builders prfer it) from one of the others, you really should strip and clean the whole system, and pay close attention to the condition of the seals.
A good idea is to ring the tech guy from the manufacturer if you have a specific question.
Posted on Jun 17, 2003, 7:21 AM from IP address 62.30.85.24
you said makes sense. I just went through trying to get my rear drum brake working with DOT 3 (what the manual said to use) only to realize I have an updated/modern setup that requires DOT 5. I have a basterdized bike and I'm still getting to know some of the parts. Now I know and now I have brake pressure.

another good deal. I'll soon be installing the my apes and I needed some new risers. Picked up a really classic pair that look like bones. They're 3" straight risers (ones I have are curved back - no good to me). I picked them up with a new throttle cable for $40. By the way, the apes I got last week (can you say FREEBIES!!!) that were all rusted up and corroded I polished up with some 280, 400, and 1000 grit sand paper followed up with a firm polishing and now they are looking like new. For anybody needing to polish old parts back to shine, try the Crafstman 3D Sander. Worked like a charm on this project as well as many others in the past. Definately one of my top 20 (handy-dandy) tools of all time.
Ya'll stay dry now.
Posted on Jun 16, 2003, 12:59 PM from IP address 66.148.218.46
I was lookin' to sell them for the $40 I invested in the overly worn set I picked up. The curved ones I have need no polishing or any work at all. They are like new. Don't know if you'd be interested. Let me know. The OL has put me on a strict budget after she found out how much I paid for those trees (which was a great deal by the way) and I told her that was the going rate. I'm trying to break even on all my spending for my current bike. All I wanna do is add some apes and make it more comfortable for me. If I'd have bought everything new that I have picked up in the past two weeks, I'd already be close to $200 in the hole.
Let me know if yer interested in the risers. I can send pics. Should be able to see them on the pics I posted last time I tore the bike down. I'll see if I can repost one.

give me a week or so to get all the parts I need to get my apes on? Those pullback risers are necessary right now until I get my longer cables hooked up. I'm hopin' to get my new brake cable in a few days and I'll be all set. As far as shipping, I don't think it will be more than about $6.00. If you wanna call it $46.00, that would work. Personal check is fine. Just send me your Visa card...I'll send it back when I'm done...promise!
I'll try to get a good pic tonight for ya. Your name is tattoed on them now, tho, so don't worry about them going anywhere.

A very small show and Jason had no intentions of entering er anything his bike is a rider, but he had alot of "OL SKOOLERS" say some nice things about it! Fer it to be a small show had some real nice custom bikes,we talked to the guy yesterday and he said the same as you probably the rocker/adjuster backed off(pretty common) I guess? He is going to work on it today and go ahead and tune it back up and change the oil! Let ya know fer sure when we know somethin`,thanks fer askin!!

The valve broke off into the Eng. rocker arm broke too, piston shot and the guy is starting that YOUV`E BEEN HOT RODDIN THIS BIKE attitude?? I never seen him over about 55-60 mph should that hurt a new motor? It has about 7-8 hundred miles on it and we took it to him at 100 changed the oil and adjusted everything now he says should be every 1-200 miles he never told us that whatya say Jim is he right or just not wantin` to admit he is at fault?? Man Jason is Down......
Posted on Jun 14, 2003, 3:28 PM from IP address 64.12.96.202
if you do have to fork out bucks,i would want to take a good hardlook at those parts, that are messed up..
sounds like a real bummer..how does a valve break?
Posted on Jun 14, 2003, 3:57 PM from IP address 66.219.136.153
He says you should bring it in every 100 Err 200 mile for him to do a oil change and adjustments ....... Tell me he didn't say that ....... Please
I change the oil in mine about every 1000 miles sometimes it goes a little farther than that, as far a valve adjustment, after the motor has broke in and they set the lifters, IF the guy knows what he's doing, they shouldn't have to be looked at for 1000's of miles, I haven't had to re-adjust the lifter in the old 55 since 1998 ... Sounds like a valve got stuck in a guide and hung the valve open getting the piston top and breaking off the rocker arm to me, That in my book would say that they didn't have proper clearance in-between the valve & the guide and it galled and stuck..... Not your fault
I would have him pull all the valves and look at them and see if there is any skid marks where it rides in the guides, that would mean they are all ready to do the same thing and it also proves that they didn't set it up right ....... let me know if I can help ....

And yes Bob I think he gave me the BEST warenty you can ask for,if anything happens bring her back cause" I DONE IT UP RIGHT"??
