And thanks again for getting those spacers to me so fast. I'm glad you sent me two because I'm going to end up using both of them. And even better, I don't have to modify the second one. . . it's actually the correct size the way it is. . .
and I didn't believe in miracles. Things actually can go more smoothly than anticipated. hmmm!
Finished this up last night.
It started out like this:
Then I started on the bottom rail of the rearend:

The frame has 52* rake. The powerplant will be a bigass 8HP Tecumseh motor. The total weight of the bike should be under 100 lbs. I'm hoping it will do some serious wheelies. I built it for my 8 year-old step-son. I'm trying to get him into hands-on hobbies.

wish my old man woulda built me one when i was a kid
if ya dont mind a lil advice from a backyard cobbler...next time ya go to bend tubing or pipe...pack it full of that play sand or sandblasting sand...then go after it with yer rosebud...it makes tha smoothest roundest bends ya could ever want...screw all dem 10,000 dollar benders

is on a very tight schedule and I'm really slapping it together as fast as I can. I've only worked on it for about 5 evenings and I've got all the rearend details and engine location details taken care of as well as the frame welded up. For a first frame build, it's really come together quickly and with little fuss. I'm sure I'll build one more mini frame before I tackle building the real thing. That's when I'll get really picky and try to make everything perfect. I need to get an acetylene torch so I can make some custom bends that I can't make with the bender. I'll also keep that sand idea in mind. I actually fractured one piece of tubing doing some practice bends. I took it just a little too far, I guess.

Things been a little crazy here in Colorado. If you'll recall last time I popped in I was building a 10 foot long chop with a Yamaha xs500 in a 69 triumph tiger frame that had been raked to 56 degrees. I had you make me a set of bearing adapters for the 18 over girder I bought and then I disappeared. Well it turned out I ran into some serious financial difficulty and had to sell my place before it got forclosed on, and ended up renting a place for about a year while I got my ducks in a row. So the whole time I was renting I really didn't want to set up a shop knowing I'd have to tear it back down in less than a year anyway. Anywho when I moved into the rental we loaded up my rolling chassis on a trailer and I couldn't get the damn thing to turn enough to get it on the trailer without picking the SOB up and moving it. Everyone had warned me that the rake was gonna be a bitch and now I knew. So I sold the girder to a buddy for his trike and I'm gonna put a springer on it that I can set the trail on correctly, as soon as I get my shop up and running in the place I just bought. I also picked up an 83 Honda Shadow that I'm cleaning up a little and making my daily rider. So slowly but surely I'm getting back there,I've only ridden once in 2 years and I can't wait to be back in the wind.
Yak at ya soon,
PB

Haven't been on the board for a while. I have been busy in the garage. Have my 57' olds back up and running. She got quite the make over....
.030 overbore (making it a 461 c.i.d.)
Edelbrock performer manifold
edebrock performer cam
edelbrock lifters
crane rockers
Speed Pro pistons and rings
Melling push rods
Melling high volume oil pump
3 angle valve grind
new valve springs and seals
Holley 770cfm double pumper carb
Took me a while to get the engine back together, would have had it done sooner if it didn't take the machine shop 5 weeks for hot tanking, magna fluxing, valve grind, crank grind, and cam bearings. Oh well it's done now, and it screams.
Anyway, I am still looking for a V-twin or twin cylinder project bike. in the $500-$1500 range. Consider complete baskets if price is right. No japs except XS650. I still have that good running, low milage 82'Silverwing for sale that I could use as a trade or partial trade as well. Let me know if ya got anything.

I will scrounge up some pics. Body hasn't changed, just the beast under the hood.
I am thinking about trying to get down to chilli to make an appearance. Depends largely on if the club has something else going on that weekend. I've been out of the loop quite a bit. Craig stopped by not too long ago and said hi. We'll see.

I've been looking all over for a set of knuckle pegs. I don't have the talent or tools to make them. They look like they fit regular factory mounts too. Any idea where I can get a set made?
Thanks,
Jim

"Lojacks Panhead" in Finnish.
Bob, Kopteri just ran my chop in this months issue. I just emailed you some high-res scans, made a point of providing details on the stuff you made & your URL- thanks again.

will shoot you one if you like. Kopteri has a website at http://www.kopteri.com, but since I can't speak Finnish it's tough to tell if you can order backissues there (this is #57).
Subscriptions are about $50/yr (well worth it) and can be faxed to +358-9-7268 0230. I used to get a ton of rags, have trimmed it down to Kopteri (Finland), Vibes (Japan), and The Horse since everything else shows studio choppers.
Happy to give credit where it's due.

I'm making up a website for fun. Showing the trials and tribulations of a first time, ground up bike builder. Since you've contributed to my project, would you allow me to link your site to mine? I don't know how much business you'll garner from it, being a non-commercial hobby site, but anything that may come from it has gotta be good, right?
I'm still in the middle of creating the site, and am gathering sites of people who've helped, and friends that I know who have sites. When I'm finished, I"ll send you the URL, so you can have a look, OK?
thanks alot man...and keep up the good work.
