Recently, there are a few former TVB actors return to TVB to do some dramas. During the Premier of Bookswords in HK, Esther had been asked when will she return to TVB. Esther replied that she and TVB have been doing some talkings, but the schedules and other things haven't comprimise yet. She said "oh well, maybe is just not the right time yet". But she does looking forward to return to TVB.

It's so unfair how experienced & capable actresses of a certain age are shelved by TVB (e.g, Maggie Siu) and limited to certain roles, whilst actors who are of the same age or older are continually cast as lovers of young women, whom often don't act ver well and some of whom could pass as their daughters!

Many of the actresses on the list act way better than the new crop today, and they have proved time and again that they are worth their while by producing high quality series for TVB with good ratings. TVB series have already been declining in quality in recent years with poor casting and poor plots, they need to bring back some good actresses fast!

Especially miss seeing Esther Kwan, Amy Chan, Amy Kwok!

I think Sonija and Charmaine is getting worst day by day...They were ok at first especially Charmaine, who imporve alot ...however in some tele-I think she is a bit over reacted.....

However I think it is a smart idea to recruit young people in to act..u can expect Sonija and Charmaine always acting teenager right plus their age is nearly to 30's......I think some cookies member can act in bad girl type of role....U can expect Lisa WOng, Sum KIn ha to act teen right...

KWAN WING HO: I KNOW MY OWN STRENGTH

Many people said I have a potential voice for singing, can try for the singing career. But I, myself, know that I do not fit to go into the singing business. If I force myself to sing, I wont achieve much! says Esther Kwan.

Esther warmly says, I have seen some young singers, who dont have much potential, yet still produce albums to prove for themselves. As a result, their albums consumption failed badly. Their newly fames also went down along with this failure, to the point that their albums were sold at $15 HKD, and still no one would buy. Therefore, I am very content and know my strength, I dont want to get into another field and play risky.

After leaving TVB, Esthers series have been declined noticeably. On average, she only produces 1 or 2 series per year. However, her income is still stable, and even making more! Esther says, Right now, my life is quite comfortable. I dont have much pressure from making enough money for a familys income; this is why I dont need to force myself to make more series like others. I am very happy with my life. I have a house located in the suburban area of HK. The environment where I live is clean, the streets are big, but not much traffic or cars around. In my spare time especially in the evening, Ka Fai and I usually take our two dogs out for a walk, enjoying the beautiful scenery of the sunset. Sometimes, we even drive our roofless convertible to the beach and watch the sunset. Besides these, I like to read books out on my houses balcony.

At the same time, for those nights that shes not busy with work, Kwan Wing Ho likes to be friends with her computer than going out to a romantic, fancy dinner at an expensive restaurant. Esther explains, At night, I like to enjoy its peace and silence. So, I love to go online to read more news, chat with all my fans from our website. Thoughts after watching Book & Sword...

Well, first of all, I quickly appreciated that this was an ambitious and serious production with a decent budget...the high quality could be seen from the casting, wuxia scenes, dialogue, cinematography, locations, music etc. Overall, I found the series better than many others today (definitely better than today's TVB series of this genre), with the quality of a film even in many instances. But it could have been edited more to quicken the pace in some places.

The acting was very strong across the board & Esther's performance was definitely one of the best. She captured the essence of Huo Qingtong very well, both her strength and her vulnerability. Loved her warrior portrayal in the battle and horseriding scenes!I've never seen Esther in this type of series (serious ancient drama) so it was great to see she was just as good as in her ancient comedies. But HQT's fate is just so tragic, you really feel for her as the series progresses! Everyone around her thinks she is so strong that she doesn't need any shoulder to lean on. (But I think she had too many crying scenes towards the end.) As for her romance with Chen Jialuo, one can only sigh that Jinyong didn't mean for them to be together. Chen's falling in love with the Princess so quickly did make him less likeable a character, and even less deserving of a heroine like HQT.

This is a quality series but it may not be appreciated by everyone for several reasons. It is by and large a serious story dealing with politics and a cause, with an ultimate tragic ending, and this may not appeal to some. The romance is not the key focus. There really is no real happy ending for any of the characters. The "hero" CJL also happens to be one of the less likeable ones in JY's stories, and his flaws make it harder for the audience to cheer for him. Also, this is a series with a large cast with screen time spread across quite a few characters so it may seem unfocused at times and it is harder to maintain the audience's interest. (I wish Esther appeared in more scenes, but this was pretty much the way the story was written.)

This is the first non-TVB series of Esther's I've seen, and I can say it's very good. But I wonder if her other non-TVB series are as good, because of the scripts and the budget? One good actress cannot save a series without a good script, castmates and director. Luckily all those pretty much came together in Book & Sword, and Esther proved her acting skills and her diversity once more.

Long long rant anyone else care to share their thoughts of this series?

i mean those that she made after she left TVB , except for Healing Hearts because i think the plot is quite slow and the ending is quite sad!~ Though i still think it's okie, not too bad like everyone says la~

About Book & Sword, i TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU!!!! MOst of Esther's fans who have watched it must agree that Esther's performance is a PLUS! She portrays HCT so well..... a true heroine la~ I remember i cannot take my eyes offf the scene where she first appears riding on the horse racing with all the guys in her tribe!~ MAN!!!!! SHE IS SOOOOOOO COOL LOOKING ahhaha However, her story isn't too good, her love relationship iwth CJL is absolutely DISAPPOINTED!~ CJL's character makes viewers like me feel like giving him an BIG SLAP on the face (sorry for the rudeness), but this is exactly how i felt when i watched the series (even though i didn't understand a thing they said cuz i watched the chinese version). The biggest disappointment that i found from CJL is his rushed love for the princess, and his lack of devotion towards HCT. But i guess Jin Yong really wants these characters this way!~ So we cannot really blame them... afterall, i stil think ZHAO WENSHOU is TOTALLY HOT AND HANDSOME! hehhehe Esther pairing with Zhao Wenshou is compatible!
Though i wish like you that Esther would appear in more scenes... but then, i think it's not too bad la~ with the series long like that, her scenes time are pretty good already!

for the all of the series that Esther has acted since she left TVB, all of them are quite refreshing to me.

LUCKY FAMILY: MEANINGFUL... Esther plays a hairdresser, and she looks so professional.. hehahhaha.. should have seen her holding those scissors man! She's good!!!

CREPE QUEEN: HUMOROUS... though it's not Esther's first time playing two characters cuz she already did in THE LEGENDARY 4 ACES ... but Esther and roger collaboration stirs up the good old memories of them together in their old TVB SERIES...

Now.. i am waiting to see THE WORLD UNPARALLELED starring esther and Dicky Cheung hehe... must be a HILARIOUS SERIES LA~

The 2 songs at the end of the list are from B&S 2002, one is the main theme, the other is one of the subthemesongs. Just right click the link and "Save target as" and you should be able to play it from real player.
Actually, the files are video clips of the songs from the actual episodes, I haven't been able to find any pure music files other than the one you gave me.

you know what?!.. nevermind, i can watch it already... the subthemesong is pretty good... i can separate the music from the video, but then... give me some times to do it since i am kinda new hehehe ,

my mp3 converter has some problem right now extracting tracks from CDs, so the soundtracks for the bg music you ask will be a bit slow before i can finish them... Do you guys want the whole song uploaded or just a portion of it.. cuz if i cut part of the song out, it will be less bytes... take shorter time for you guys to download, if you still want the whole song, it's okie too, just may take bit longer to download !~ Which would you prefer?!

Here is one of the soundtrack instrumental music from the bg music of B&S... notice i cut it, therefore it's not the whole soundtrack but only a portion of it.. it's only like over 1 minute... just for you guys to enjoy a bit first in the mean time i can do the rest!

Thanks a lot for taking the time to upload the music!
I'd prefer to have the whole tracks but please do whatever suits you best I especially like the tracks that play during the scenes with Esther (e.g. the sunrise scene) so maybe you can do them first if you remember which ones those are.

PS I hope the news about Esther doing a TVB series is true, but it looks like a rumour so far! So many artists are going back to TVB to do one-off series these days, I hope Esther will do that one day.

at the end , Esther left because of the promise she has made to be a nun. However, we really don't know if she will become one, she just left because she needs times to be away from Kenny... therefore, whether or not she'll be back with Kenny is UNKNOWN....
so saddddddd... wish there is Healing Hearts part 2 la~ so maybe we can know whether or not Samantha (Esther's character name) will be together with Paul (kenny's character name) after all!

It's a worthwhile series to rent!~ *a bit spoiler*

The story is short but i think very interesting. ESther and Roger act as a couple in the series. They been living together for almost 7 years (if i remember it correctly).... been through Ups and DOWNS, breaking up, getting back.... to the point where they actually almost get married!~ But then.... hum.... welll... i don't want to ruin the story la~ If you watch then you'll find out!~ All i can say is that it's a good series, especially the ending... although it might not be the way we expected it to be.. but it's very good~ I remember i actually cried at the ending ....
May be you should give it a try and tell us how you think of it!~ hehehe

Actually, I remember watching bits of this years ago but unfortunately there's no way for me to rent it now, and I never saw the ending! Can't find it anywhere. So I'd love for you to tell me the ending All I remember of the story was Roger splitting up with Esther because he was bored by the relationship and he didn't want to get married although Esther asked him about it (?). What happened next?

I remember this series being interesting with good insights into different POVs on love and relationships, and in an old interview, Esther said this was one of her favourite series! So pls tell me what your remember of it. Thanks.

and i can understand why she feels this way. The series storyline was very good, stating the real-life relationships of many couples in our century. Those that love each other, living together but yet, too confused of whether or not they should sign the paperworks to say 'I DO'!~

eSHTER AND roger have so much chemistry in this series, their actings are excellent!

Well... since you never get to see the ending... here they are:
Esther and Roger broke up after living together in their new house, the one that they hope to build their family. However, only couple months, Roger starts to get bored with Esther because he feels that he gets less space for himself despite the fact that Esther already gave him 'plenty' of space. I think this is the climax of the story when Roger says they should break up. To me, it is the "stupid-est" thing that he has done out of all the things throughout the relationship. I remember Esther cries so much when she heard those words coming out of Roger's mouth. I guess it is more heart-broken than any else. If you see that part, man!~ Esther's acting could have ripped your heart in pieces like hers too. I felt so bad for her when i watched this part!~
AFter they broke up, Roger and Esther go on their own ways. Roger moves back to his friends' place. However, they still love each other so much. Roger, after a period of time, that has well enjoyed his so-called "FREE OWN-SPACE", he starts to miss Esther again. He also realizes that his love for ESther has grown even stronger than before, and that, no one he has dated after Esther could replace her in his heart. Therefore, he wants to get back with ESther. However, this time, Esther already met a new guy. She has moved on!~ This guy treats her so much better than Roger and this guy has a strong sense of family more than Roger. He keeps urging Esther to get marry. Esther agrees. Then, when she accidentally one day meets Roger again, they talk and Roger finds out that Esther is about to get married. He later asks her to get back with him. BUT... EVERYTHING IS TOO LATE... Esther says she cannot breaks her finance's heart like Roger has broken hers, and she truly like her finance'.
Roger never shows up at the wedding even though that Esther invites him... He only stays in the car a distance away from the ceremony... looking towards ESther. OKie... THIS IS ANOTHER SAD PART... man!!! If you watch this part, you cry your eyes out!~ Roger cries so much that makes us feel so sorry for him. His acting here is excellent!!!!!! Hum.. i only watched this series twice, but i still remember that sitting in his car looking towards Esther in her wedding ceremony, he cries and says " I never knew that she looks so beautiful in the wedding gowns, now that I know, everything is too late"!

Okei.. then... the series flashs to 3 years later, it says that Esther after married has moved to Canada with her husband. So for 3 years, Roger and Esther did not see each other. Roger keeps working harder and still dating different girls, but then... he still couldn't forget Esther!~ one day, he meets eSther out of no where on the street, they pass by each other. Roger then finds out that Esther's husband had died in a car accident. She then moves back to HK to stay for a while. So Roger takes all his courage to tell Esther that he still loves her and hope for another chance. But Esther says they cannot be together anymore. She will always love her husband and can never forget him....She cannot be selfish! She tells Roger not to wait for her but also find his own love... and she moves back to Canada again.

at the end, Roger did have his own family, he marries a girl and is quite happy with his life. However, everynight, after his family goes to bed, Roger would stand outside his balcony, looking up into the sky and gazing at the stars, remember Esther and their RELATIONSHIP. I remember Roger says this when looking up the sky " even though we did not end up together, but everynight when I see those stars, it reminds me of my relationship with XXX(i don't remember Esther's character name), and that in a significant period of owr life, we HAD LOVED each other SO DEARLY!~ "

hehhe.. long spoiler heh?.... can't help it la~ it's one of the saddest series of Esther that i have seen (the other is Healing hEarts), but sad series like this always leaves me with life-lasting impressions. Although we all hope that esther and Roger can be together at the end... it's very sad! but the ending did not disppointed me at all because it conveys many real-life relationships, and that, not every couple will have a HAPPY ENDING.... this is one of many examples that the script writer has successfully portrayed.

Roger hopes that someday Esther will change her mind and come back to him, but he never sees her after that, he says:

My thoughts....

First of all, Thank You so very much for your long detailed spoiler, it was very satisfying!! I just hope one day I'll be able to see the series again.

I think the best thing about this series was its very real depiction of real life relationships, thanks to a good script and good actors, who really make you feel for them. Unfortunately, I often feel this is not done well in many newer series where relationships just seem too shallow and contrived, and the only plot device are poor love triangles.

Back to the series, I think the bittersweet ending strikes the right note (although part of me always hopes for a happy ending! actually, maybe both characters are happy with their choices at the end?). Roger's words sums up the moral of the series very well, alas too often we don't know what is precious till we have lost it!

Both characters had a rare second chance to be together again, despite changed circumstances, what are your thoughts on that?

Why do you think Esther rejects Roger after her husband died? Is it because she had truly moved on and her feelings for Roger were in the past? Or was it she still had feelings for Roger on some level but it was too soon after her husband's death? Or she felt she could never love Roger again after the way he broke her heart? She doubted Roger's feelings for her? Actually, does Esther miss Roger after their break up? If you were Esther's character, would you go back to Roger? (For Roger's sake, I hope he wholeheartedly loves his new family, even though he will never forget Esther.)

After seeing "The Intangible Truth", where Roger & Esther did not end up with each other, it's too bad they don't here either, but it's great watching them in such different types of series. Pity it's been years since I've seen them together on screen as I've missed their recent collaborations. Have you seen "The Warrior Games" (Sun Zi Bing Fat) which they're both in? Which is your favourite Esther/Roger series?

sorry for the delayed in response... i have been so sick the past week that i cannot go online for so long visiting the forum. Now i feel much better!

ANyhow.. you are very welcome, actually this series of eSther leaves me with the most impression because the ending is very meaningful!~ I think after Esther broke up with Roger, she still loves him, but then... she learns to move on over times and because she meets the new guy, therefore, i guess Roger and Esther's relationship really cannot go back.

True! Not everyone can have this SECOND RARE chance to see the one you love (or used to love), but then... once things have passed, it is so difficult to start over!~ Wouldn't you rather leave it as it is so at least you can have some good memories from the past!~ I think this is how eSther feels. It's not that she would not give Roger this rare second chance, or that she still couldn't get over how Roger has broken her heart, but she rather would like to keep such worthwhile memories in the past. Also, i think after 3 years, both Roger and Esther have changed alot and grew more mature. Maybe it could also be that Roger was too quick asking Esther back after her husband's death, but then, i would think that Esther would never forget her husband since the fact is that she really loves her husband.

in Intangible Truth, i felt the same way too. Too bad Esther and Roger do not have good ending either. OH well.... hope someday Esther and Roger can act together again and then, maybe they would have a better ending than these two previous series

Yes! I watched the Hero Sword (or whatever you called ehhe.. sorry, i couldn't recall it), and the story is pretty good too. AGAIN... ROGER AND ESTHER DIDN'T HAVE GOOD ENDING EITHER... ARGGGGGHHHHH..... which makes me quite mad after finished all 3 of their series, and none has good ending!~I like that one part when Roger says he likes Esther when both of them fell into that DARK WELL... esther cries .... she looks so pretty at this scene!

Luckily, Esther and Roger newest series Crepe Queen brings me much more excitements. The story is so funny, their chemistry is still there like the old series! The thing i like the most about it is that... Roger gets to end up with TWO ESTHERS in this series AHHAHAHA LOL.... i guess that makes up for those past series that they can not be together!
